Students investigated how much paper is used by middle school students in a year. They surveyed teachers to determine the average paper usage per student per week in different classes. In total, middle school students use approximately 490,672 pieces of paper per year, equivalent to killing 58.8 trees. The investigation found that math and German classes used the most paper. The students concluded that while many talk about environmental issues like global warming, their own paper usage contributes to the problem and they can help by reducing waste.
