INTRODUCTION
Starbucks is an American global coffee company that was first
founded in 1971 at Seattle, Washington. And later on in the 1990s,
Starbucks was brought into Malaysia by the Berjaya Group Berhad
and it’s now operating by the Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company
Sdn Bhd., a joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and
Berjaya Group Berhad.
Now into Starbucks 14th
year in Malaysia, Starbucks has grown
into becoming the favourite coffee place for the Malaysians. They
provide not only high quality coffee but also food and other beverages
including tea and juices. Together with the friendly and attentive
services offered by the barista in Starbucks, no doubt Starbucks has
slowly risen to be one of the top coffee place in Malaysia.
Through our survey/questionnaire, we would like to analyze
about the preferences among the adolescents aged 18 to 20 and
young adults aged 21 to 23 about Starbucks.
OBJECTIVE
In this modern era, quality and comfortable living has become
something that everybody will look for in life. People don’t only look
for nice food or beverages but also the service, environment, health
conscious and more when they visit a coffee place.
For this survey that our group have carried out, our aim is to
know more precisely about the factors that will be considered by the
adolescents aged 18 to 20 and the young adults aged 21 to 23 when
they visit Starbucks including the variety of coffee, toppings added,
pricing, services, environment, food and beverage taste and quality,
health conscious, hygiene conditions, the time spent and also the
purpose of going to Starbucks.
With the information and data collected, we would like to further
analyze these factors mentioned above through precise calculation
and tabulation.
METHODOLOGY
While surveying at Starbucks.
When we were collecting info about the food and beverage price.
Chiew Nee was asking the barista about the most ordered food and
beverage.
Sharon and Jia Jian were tabulating the data and info collected after
carrying out the survey.
Sharon was finalizing the data and design of the info-graphic poster.
Jia Yi helped to design and work on the info-graphic poster.
CONCLUSION
After conducting the survey, we get to understand more about
the preferences of the participants from two different age groups
towards Starbucks and the few main attractions that keep the
participants for going to Starbucks.
We conclude that 65% of the survey participants are students in
the age group of 18-20 and they are more likely to visit Starbucks.
Most of the participants, regardless of the age groups visit Starbucks
to enjoy coffee and meals. Besides going for coffee and meals, they
would also spend their leisure time in Starbucks.
Most of the survey participants preferred cold drinks than hot
drinks, which sums up to a total of 75% out of 100 participants. And
for the cup size, 52% of the participants prefer Grande size. Most of
the participants prefer Frappuccino than tea, chocolate, and coffee,
which takes up 44% of all. 41 out of 100 of the survey participants
prefer adding nothing into their drinks, while the number of
participants who choose to add raw sugar is at its least. For the
topping, most of the participants choose to add cream instead of
chocolate chips and caramel. Regardless of the age groups, most of
the participants visit Starbucks once or twice a week and spend less
than 1 hour there.
