ASSIGNMENT
PROGRAM MCA(REVISED FALL 2012)
SEMESTER FIRST
SUBJECT CODE & NAME MCA1040- SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
CREDIT 4
BK ID B1647
MAX.MARKS 60
Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that answers for 10 marks questions should be approximately
of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme.
Q.1 Describe the following:
a) Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) b) Management Information Systems (MIS) c) Decision
Support Systems (DSS) d) Office Automation Systems (OAS)
Answer:- Transaction Processing Systems (TPS):- Transaction processing is a style of computing that
divides work into individual, indivisible operations, called transactions.[1] A transaction processing
system (TPS) or transaction server is a software system, or software/hardware combination, that
supports transaction processing.
Q. 2 Define attributes. What are the two attribute classifications? Explain about properties and
characteristics.
Answer:- Attributes:- In computing, an attribute is a specification that defines a property of an object,
element, or file. It may also refer to or set the specific value for a given instance of such. For clarity,
attributes should more correctly be considered metadata. An attribute is frequently and generally a
property of a property. However, in actual usage, the term
Q. 3 Differentiate between logical entity relationship and physical entity relationship.
Answer: - Logical modeling deals with gathering business requirements and converting those
requirements into a model. The logical model revolves around the needs of the business, not the
database, although the needs of the business are used to establish the needs of the database. Logical
modeling involves gathering information about business processes, business entities (categories of
data), and organizational units. After this information is gathered, diagrams and reports are produced
including entity relationship diagrams, business
Q.4 Write short notes on:
a. Data Dictionary
b. Data Element
c. Data Structure
d. Data Store
e. Data Flow
Answer:- Data Dictionary:- A data dictionary, or metadata repository, as defined in the IBM Dictionary
of Computing, is a "centralized repository of information about data such as meaning, relationships to
other data, origin, usage, and format."[1] The term can have one of several closely related meanings
pertaining to databases and database management systems (DBMS):
Data Element:-Data elements usage can be discovered by inspection of software applications or
application data files through a process of manual or automated Application Discovery and
Understanding. Once data elements are discovered they can be registered in a metadata registry.
In
Data Structure: - In computer science, a data structure is a particular way of organizing data in a
computer so that it can be used efficiently.
Data Store: - A data store is a data repository of a set of integrated objects. These objects are modeled
using classes defined in database schemas.[1] Data store includes not only data repositories like
databases, it is a more general concept that includes also flat files that can store data.
Some data stores do represent data in only one schema, while other data stores use several schemas
for this task. An example is RDBMS-based data stores like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Data Flow: - Dataflow is a software architecture based on the idea that changing the value of a variable
should automatically force recalculation of the values of variables which depend on its value.
Q. 5 What are the different types of methods used for the training of operators and users? Discuss.
Answer:- Training is a set of a systematic processes designed to meet learning objectives related to
trainees' current or future jobs. These processes can be grouped into the following phases; needs
analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The phases are sequential, with the
outputs of the previous phases providing the inputs to those that follow. Figure 1 depicts the phases and
their relationships. Training delivery methods consist of the techniques and materials used by trainers to
structure learning experiences. Different training
Q6 Explain the concept of inheritance and polymorphism with example.
Answer:- Inheritance.:-Inheritance concept in OOP allows us to create a new class using an existing one.
It also allows the new class to add its own functionality. This concept can also be related to real world
entity. A bike manufacturer uses same mechanism of existing version of the bike while launching a new
version with some added functionalities. This allows him to save time and efforts. In object-oriented
programming (OOP), inheritance is when an object or class is based on another object or class, using the
same implementation (inheriting from a class) or specifying implementation to maintain the same
behavior (realizing an interface; inheriting behavior
