BEFORE MCP AFTER MCP
▪ Connecting LLMs to external sources requires custom implementations,
which can be costly and time-consuming.
▪ Each provider (e.g., Anthropic, Google, OpenAI) employs proprietary
mechanisms to connect to various external sources, tools, and APIs.
▪ There is no universal mechanism to connect external sources, APIs, and
tools with LLMs.
▪ MCP (Model Context Protocol), designed and developed by Anthropic, is now
officially open source for the community.
▪ It offers flexibility by enabling LLM-hosted IDEs to connect with MCP servers
through clients.
▪ Clients are components that reside within LLM-hosted applications such as
Claude Desktop, VSCode, and others.
▪ MCP has expanded its capabilities by enabling connections between LLMs and
external applications such as GitHub, Google Drive, Slack, as well as open-
source automation tools like Playwright and various external data sources.
▪ Anthropic has provided Python, TypeScript, C# , Kotlin and Java SDKs,
allowing anyone to develop MCP servers and necessary components for any
business case.

MCP COMPONENTS
▪ LLM applications like Claude Desktop enabled with the MCP client by default.
▪ Server details must be configured within LLM applications such as Claude Desktop,
VSCode, Postman, IDEs, and other AI tools.
▪ As MCP gains adoption and rapidly evolves, its design and architecture facilitate
easy configuration using a JSON file format.
▪ The JSON file contains details of target Server details (e.g., Playwright Automation,
Files, GitHub, Slack, etc.).
▪ The MCP server should include tools required for the target component
developed for MCP (e.g., for Playwright, appropriate methods must be
implemented to perform Playwright web operations). These tools are exposed
to LLM and invoked by Clients through Server.
▪ Resources such as files, APIs, and databases should be integrated with the
server, allowing the LLM to retrieve data as needed for its operations.
▪ Prompts, which are pre-written templates, help users accomplish specific
tasks or operations efficiently.

TEST AUTOMATION
▪ By default, Claude and VSCode do not have the capability to
interact with web applications.
▪ A Playwright MCP server can be developed to enable Claude to
perform actions on target web applications.
▪ Claude interprets the user prompt, analyzes it, and selects the
relevant tools to use.
▪ The client executes these tools (such as launching the browser
or interacting with web elements) via the MCP server.
▪ Results are sent back to Claude, which formulates a response
and displays it to the user.
This approach is similar to how commercial automation assistants
such as Testim, testRigor, or KaneAI Test Agent from LambdaTest
perform actions on web applications.
