Getting Started… To start you need to know what a data set and an outlier is. Data Set- a data set is a groups of numbers that are results. Example:  1,2,4,8,9,7,8,2,3,6,4,5,7,9,8,2,4,5,3,1  is a data set.
Outlier Outlier- an outlier is a number that is a lot different from the other numbers in a data set. Example: In the data set; 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,100 100 is the outlier!
Mean Mean-the average of a data set(all the numbers added up and divided by the number of numbers). Example: Find the mean of the data set;  0,1,3,1,2,3,4,5,5,4 0+1+3+1+2+3+4+5+5+4  10  =  28  10 = 2.8 The mean of this data set is 2.8.
Median- the number in the middle of an organized set of data.  If there are two medians you find the mean of the two medians and that is your median. Example:  Find the median of this data set; 0,1,3,1,2,3,4,5,5,4 First we organize the data; 0,1,1,2,3,3,4,4,5,5, Then we find the middle number or numbers; 3&3  3+3=6  6 ÷ 2 = 3  3 is the median.
Mode- the mode is the number that occurs most in a data set.  If all the numbers occur the same amount of time, then there is no mode.  There can be two modes.  Example: Find the mode of the data set; 0,1,1,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,7,8,8,8,8,8,8,9 The mode is 8 because it occurs the most often.
Range- the distance between the lowest and highest numbers. Example: Find the range of the data set; 11,15,22,23,26,34,35,45,56,58,60  60-11= 49  The range is 49.
Here’s a quick way to remember Mean, Median, Mode, and Range. Mean is mean because it has the most math. Median is medium which is like middle, find the middle number. Mode is most, find the number that occurs the most. Range you just have to remember.
