Media Magazine
Survey results and Audience
Profile
By Sabina Shah
During this research, I had conducted some qualitative
and quantitative research by using an online survey. My
survey included questions that would help me gain the
information I needed in order to meet my audiences
needs and wants. I had received responses by using
social media, as I had posted my survey through
different social media’s, in order to gain the
information I needed, from my target audience. This
information helped make different decisions for my
magazine, in order to meet the needs and wants for my
audience.
How old are you?
This graph is showing the different age groups of my respondents that took part in my survey. As shown, there were
many different responses that participated in my survey. This shows 32% of the respondents were 16 and under,
47% of the were 17-20, 15% aged 21-24, and lastly 6% ages 24 or over. This is a vital question to ask due to my
magazine being aimed at girls, who are at the ages 16-24. By reviewing these results, it shows that I have met this
target, as majority of my respondents are at the ages 17-24 at 47%, followed by 15% being ages 21-24. This is
therefore helping my magazine as it allows me to gather information from my target audience. By having some
ideas of what the 16 and below think is also advantage for my magazine, due to giving me an understanding of what
my younger target audience have an interest in.
What is your gender?
These graphs show the respondents genders. As seen, the majority of the respondents were female with the
percentage of 73%, followed by the remaining 27% of males., which is hardly needed due to my magazine being
aimed at females. These statistics helpful for my magazine due to my magazine being aimed at girls. Therefore
these graphs comes in an advantage as majority are female, so I am able to base majority of my results from
females, and gives, me a wider selection of information based on my target audience.
living?
This graph shows what the respondents do for a living. As shown in the graph, 75% have said they go to school/college for a
living, followed by 22% saying they go to work, with the remaining 3% said they do something else. This set of data can help
with my magazine by allowing me to get a rough idea of the sort of things to include into my magazine, which could relate to my
target audience. It allows me to include things such as things appropriate towards teenagers and early 20’s, such as things as
shopping, makeup, celebrities, etc. These are things that people in school/college and even work show an interest in.
What genre of music do you
listen to?
This graph shows what the respondents preferred genre of music. As shown, the graph tells us that the most popular genre
was R&B, with 51% of the votes, followed by the Hip-hop at 22%, Pop, with 10%, to the least popular genre being Grime and
Rock with 4% and 2%. There were also other interests other types of genre that the respondents enjoyed by 11%. This sort of
information can help within my magazine as it will help me understand what my audience’s favourite type of music is, so I am
able to include the correct mode of address to match this genre. It helps me to decide on what artists to include in my
magazine, what sort of things to write, photos to include, the style of the magazine and what sort of mode of address to include
so my audience can relate themselves to my magazine.
music..
This graph shows ways in which the respondents download their music, with the two choices of legally, and illegally. The
graph shows that the majority of the respondents download their music illegally, which is 64% of them, followed by 36% who
download their music legally. These results help my magazine understand weather people are going to read my magazine or
not, and if they would be interested in knowing about new music and new artists that may be included in my magazine.
These results showing that majority of the respondents download their music illegally, puts my magazine at a bit of a
disadvantage, due to them having access to free music online, and discovering new artists through social media.
How much are you willing to pay
for a music magazine?
This graph is showing how much the respondents would pay for a music magazine. The results show that the majority of the
respondents at 76% were willing to pay up to £1-£2 for a music magazine. Followed by 21% of them who said they would
pay up to £3-£4 for a music magazine, to then me followed by 3% of the respondents who said they would pay £5 or more
for a music magazine. This helps my magazine as its giving me a rough idea as to how much to charge for my magazine, as
it would give me an idea of how many people would buy my magazine, if in this case I charge for my magazine £1-£2, as it
was the most popular price. This would result into me receiving more people to buy my magazine.
animal? What is your favourite animal?
Dolphin
Cat
Dog
Lion
Koala
Tiger
Rabbit
Zebra
Leopard
Monkey
This graph is shows the respondents response to their favourite animal. As seen on the graph, the most
popular animal was a Dog with 25% of the vote, followed by the least popular being a Koala at 1% followed
by a mixture of other animals that the respondents had shown an interest too. These results help within my
magazine as it tells me what my respondents are like, and what type of person they are. For example
those who chose cat to be their favourite animal, would be seen as a more soft, calm, caring person,
where as for those who picked Dogs, Lions, Tigers, Leopards are seen as more wild, outgoing people. This
enables me to include things within my magazine to match what my respondents are like. As the results
show the most popular was the Dog, I am able to include words with the direct address of wild, outgoing
people, to represent my audience.
