   Hands-On Midterm & Final ITNET-110-Rev. 3
The midterm is based on chapters 1-6 of your textbooks and the final is based on chapters 1-15.
For your midterm, you should complete activities 1-15 (below)
For your final, you should complete activities 16-26 (below)
You can work on this with a partner.
You will need two Windows 7 machines for this activity.
To complete the midterm (or final),start with a copy of this document and add screenshots as
   indicated
below. The screenshots will prove to me that you were able to complete the activity.
Also, make sure to answer any questions below as well.
Each item below is worth 5 points
Start with 2 clean installs of Windows 7. You are going to name the computers in step 1. On the
W7-1 machine, leave at least 2GB of un-partitioned space on the hard drive.
Each item below should require 1 or 2 screenshots. You do not need to show each step, but
   rather the final product.
1.Change the Computer names of your computers to W7-1 and W7-2
2.Do an IPCONFIG on W7-1 and record the following:
■IP Address__192.168.52.130______________________
■Subnet Mask___255.255.255.0_____________________
■Default Gateway____192.168.52.2____________________
3.Configure the TCP/IPv4 configurations as follows and
W7-1
IP Address 192.168.1.100
Default Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
W7-2
IP Address 192.168.1.101
Default Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
4.Deploying Windows 7 can overwhelming. The following resource includes 5, 2 minute videos that walk
through the Windows 7 deployment process - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ff657745
The videos cover the following:
¨ Step 1: Create an Answer File
¨ Step 2 - Build a Reference Installation
¨ Step 3 - Create a Bootable Windows PE CD-ROM
¨ Step 4 - Capture the Customized Windows Installation
¨ Step 5 - Deploy the Windows Image from a Network Share
Watch the videos mentioned above and complete the following:
●Create a WinPE ISO with imageX.

5.Thisquestion will require bit of research. Assume that you have a customized computer that
you wish to capture an image of to deploy to other computers. add a screenshot of how you
would use
sysrep to prepare the computer to be imaged and also be shutdown.
6.Assume that you’ve run sysprep successfully (from above) and your computer was shutdown.
Now you have booted the computer from the WinPE boot disk created in step 4. Since you’ve
booted
from the boot disk, you are at the command prompt as indicated below:

Write out the imageX command that you would use to capture the C drive of this
computer to a USB drive, which happens to be the D: drive.
ImageX/ capture “C:” D:imagesCdrive.wim “Hard drive Image”
________________________________________________________________________
7.On W7-1, create a new folder on C: called VHDSTORAGE (C:VHDSTORAGE) as indicated
below

Now create a VHD called test1.vhd with the following specs:
○Name: Test1.vhd
○Virtual HardDisk Size: 200MB
○Virtual Harddisk Format: Dynamically Expanding
Include a screenshot from the disk management utility showing that the VHD has been
created and mounted (similar to screenshot below)
Midterm
8.Extra Credit - Format the .vhd disk. Your Windows 7 machine will then treat this file as a
physical disk. You can use the disk management utility or DiskPart command line utility to
accomplish
this.
9.On W7-1, create a 2GB FAT32 partition (or volume) in your unallocated space. Assign H: to
your partition (or volume).
■Can this FAT partition be Extended?__No_______________________
■Can this FAT partition be Shrunk?____No_______________________
10.Use the command line utility to convert the FAT partition (above) to an NTFS partition

■Can this NTFS partition be Extended?_Yes________________________
■Can this NTFS partition be Shrunk?_____Yes______________________
11.Create a new folder on C: called ITNET110 (C:ITNET110)

12.Grantyourself (the administrator) Full Control of ITNET-110. Remove the rest of the default
permissions from C:ITNET110
Your screenshot for C:ITNET-110 should look similar to the following (note that the admin
is the
only user with access to the folder).
●Can you (the administator) create a new folder in C:ITNET110?
_Yes. Because I have Full control permissions, which allows this.__(why/why not?)

13.Create a standard user, Pat Feder
■Can Pat Feder create a new folder in C:ITNET110?
_No. Because my user account is the only one with those permissions. (why/why not?)

14.Create a group called Instructors and make Pat Feder a member of this group

15.Give theInstructors Group, Write, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read
permissions
of ITNET-110
