The Psychology of Learning - Remembering
Research has shown that, during the learning process, the
human brain primarily remembers the following:
• Items from the beginning of the learning period ('the primacy effect')
• Items from the end of the learning period ('the recency effect')
• Any items associated with things or patterns already stored, or linked to
other aspects of what is being learned
• Any items which are emphasised as being in some way outstanding or
unique
• Any items which appeal particularly strongly to any of the five senses
• Those items which are of particular interest to the person
4
Why MIND MAP ?

• Mind Mapping fosters creativity
• Mind Mapping enhances learning
• Mind Mapping supports effective teaching

5
What is Mind Map ?
• A Mind Map is a visual diagram used to record and
organise information in a way which the brain finds
captivating and easy to process
• Thoughts, ideas or facts are laid out around a central
theme so that you can clearly ‘see’ their flow across
different levels
• The brain likes to work on the basis of association
and it will connect every idea, memory or piece of
information to tens, hundreds and even thousands of
other ideas and concepts
6
STANDARD Notes
• They obscure the key words
• They make it difficult to remember
• They Waste Time
• They fail to stimulate the brain creatively
