Title: Missing You Artist: The Saturdays Genre: Pop Intended Length: 3.40 minutes Basic Details
Genre & Stylistic Influences The genre of the song we are using is pop. Pop is generally aimed at the youth market, and consists of short length songs that usually focus on the subject of love and relationships. Famous pop artists include such people as Britney Spears, who has shaped her career around having the ‘squeaky-clean’ image that is associated with this genre of music. Although we have taken into account all aspects of the pop genre, we have predominantly focused on the style of girl groups as this is what we want to achieve in our own video. We looked at two videos to gain initial ideas and thoughts about how a video of a pop song that is sung by a girl group would look. By doing this it allowed us to see important features which we will need to include in our own video. We looked at the original video of the song we are replicating, and one by an opposing girl group. They are as follows: Missing You – The Saturdays http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v = y_-UiAwEgbQ&ob =av2n Call the Shots – Girls Aloud http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v =UHoF3a6Q9Wk From these videos, we have established that an important feature of this genre is to have several close ups of the girls on their own, as well as group shots. These are mainly either close ups or medium close ups, but they do also feature full length shots. Another common feature is choreography, where by the girls in both videos would have a minor dance routine at some point during the song.
The Intended Audience In terms of the sound, the intended audience of this song is typically for teenage girls. This is because the relationships described in the song and shown in the video are intended to be the most relatable to this audience group. Saying this, in terms of the visual aspects the video is aiming at both gender groups. They want to be perceived as a role-model to young girls, and their visual image is something girls are able to aspire to. On the other hand, they want to look attractive to men in order to broaden their audience. Other Aspects of the Media When you take into account all aspects of the media (such as television and film), the song we have chosen would appeal to people who enjoy to watch programmes such as Hollyoaks and One Tree Hill. It may also appeal to people who like films such as St. Trinians, as it carries many of the same focus points such as the ideas of love and relationships.
The Visual Style When thinking about camerawork and editing we want to include short, close shots which show all members of the group. We looked at a few examples and the video below is one of many that show what we as a group are trying to achieve. About a Girl – Sugababes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV148zhtJgk Here you can see examples of the sort of speed we want our editing to be. The edits are quick and show the artists from various angles and working with several props such as a car.
We originally wanted to pick a song that bares resemblance to the one shown below. We wanted to pick a love song to fit in with the main characteristics of the pop genre. Whilst being a slow-tempo song it has a fast enough beat for us to be able help us lip-synch effectively. It also enables us to use quick editing shots that don’t look out of place. I’ll Stand By You – Girls Aloud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeEq2tlD6WY&ob=av2e Below is the actual song which we are using for our video. Mise En Scene

Narrative Structure There will be 3 locations in our video; for the first part of the song we will be in Epping Forest, for the second part we will be somewhere else, and we will also have cut backs during the song which will be taking place in the living room/bedroom of a house. The story of the cutbacks will be based around the idea of a dysfunctional relationship between a man and woman. The video will be a series of shot sequences of the artists, which will feature many close ups. They will all be in separate locations initially. Then the cutbacks will be featured at various points in the video, building up somewhat of a story. These will be in black and white. There will be a change of location for the artists at mid-point during the song, to add some variety to the video. This will also mean a change of hair, make-up and costume. Towards the end of the video, the artists will be featured together in the same location at various points. The cutbacks will also come to a climax. The end of the video will see shots of the artists individually and potentially a final shot of the cutback.
Ancillary Task 1 For our first ancillary task we are going to do a digipack. This will include:  Images of the Artists  Background information on the Artists  Titles of Songs  Dates which Songs were released  Lyrics of the Song Our aim is for our digipack to look feminine, modern and sophisticated. This is the way we feel the artists reflect themselves so we want to portray this in the task.
Ancillary Task 2 For our second ancillary task, we are going to do a magazine advertisement. Because of the broad female audience that the band have, it is possible that this advertisement would be seen in several magazines. They have appeal to young girls, who will read ‘junior’ magazines, but they also appeal to young women who will read more matured magazine.
In terms of team roles, we have decided to all play an equal part in the whole process, so therefore everyone can get a good grade. We are all going to feature in the video as the artists, so we can all share the experience of lip-synching and performing for the camera. This way, it means that we will also have shared responsibility of filming the footage as no one person is going to be assigned a specific role. This also is the same situation for the editing, whereby we will ensure that we all edit the same amount of footage to ensure that we all get a good grade. We will also be styling ourselves as well as doing our own hair and makeup, we will not be using an extra help to do this. We will, however, be using extra’s in our video to better show the story behind the song. We will be directing these people so that they act in a way that will work well with our production, this gives us a chance to experience working with people who aren’t directly involved in the production. Team Roles
Conclusion The USP of our music video is We are a girl group, and each member has an individual style. We use colours to separate us from each other but we will maintain the same style. We are featuring an other female actress in our cutbacks, so there will be more than one focal point..
