 How to cite a source using MLA style.
 How to create a bibliography using the following
resources:
 Internet
 Books

 We will also practice writing some citations
together.
Remember!!

 When you write a paper and
take information that is not
written or thought by
you, YOU MUST GIVE
CREDIT TO THE SOURCE!
 YOU MUST WRITE A
CITATION TO TELL
READERS THAT THIS
INFORMATION DID NOT
COME FROM YOU.
 YOU MUST ALWAYS BE
HONEST AND NOT
PLAGIARIZE!
WHAT IS MLA?


 MLA stands for Modern
Language Association. It
provides consistent
standards for writing
citations.
 A consistent standard for
your paper.
 Protects you from
plagiarism.
 Readers can easily check
where you got your
information.
Why Should I use MLA
Citations??

 You have to give credit
when you use
information written or
thought up by others.
 By writing a citation
and crediting your
source of information,
you avoid
PLAGIARISM.
When Should I cite my
sources?

 Many students do not
mean to plagiarize…If you
are not sure, it is better to
always cite the source!
 Remember, whenever
you summarize,
paraphrase or quote
another author's material
you must properly credit
your source.
Works Cited Page

 The Works Cited Page
appears at the end of
your paper on its own
page.
 It lists all sources you
used to write your report.
 The Works Cited page
provides the information
needed for a reader to
find and retrieve any
source used in your
paper.
