Major League Soccer is the top professional soccer league in the United States, founded in 1993 with 19 teams currently and expanding to 21 teams by 2015. The season runs from March to December, including playoffs. The playoffs have a different format than European soccer leagues, with the top 3 teams in each conference qualifying and the next 4 teams earning wild cards. The MLS Cup is awarded to the winner of the final.
