Since our founding in 2002, Mobilize.org has hosted 10 summits and
invested in 34 Millennial-led projects that address issues such as financial
literacy, environmental sustainability, college completion, and the challenges
young veterans face adjusting to civilian life. This special summit reconvenes
funded teams, summit participants and non-profit partners to offer
collaborative learning opportunities, skill-building workshops and speaking
opportunities that allow you to share your challenges, successes and tell us
how investments from Mobilize.org and our partners have allowed you to
scale and elevate your work, and how we can do even more to support you
and other Millennials across the country.

The Millennial Generation is at a landmark civic, social and economic
crossroads; it holds an endless potential for civic innovation while facing
overwhelming socio-economic opposition. The Mobilize.org mission is to
empower and invest in Millennials to create and implement solutions to
social problems and we believe that honing our generation’s collaborative
spirit is key to helping us break through these barriers. The Millennial
Leadership Summit provides you with exclusive networking opportunities
with your peers, philanthropic partners and members of the corporate social
responsibility community– all who are committed to supporting your work
and continued leadership development. This weekend, I encourage you to
share your own experiences and best practices, reconnect with old friends,
make new ones, find new ways to collaborate and enjoy the Big Apple.

Don’t Miss It: Top Five Night Tourist Attractions to Check Out!
1) Times Square
One of the most iconic sites of New York, Times Square at night is a sight to
behold. Filled with milling tourists and locals alike, the blazing signs of ads
and television screens are a must-see attraction.
2) Statue of Liberty
Although there are no tours or ferries to the Statue of Liberty at night, this
baby is still visible from the South West harbors in New York. Make your way
to the riverside to view lady liberty herself.
3) Time Warner Center
The Time Warner Center, open until 9 o’clock, consists of two 750 foot towers
that are bridged by a multi-story atrium with upscale retail shops. It was the
first major building to be built in New York after the September 11th terrorist
attacks. The building contains a number of shops, offices, residential
condominiums, a hotel, and even a theatre! Definitely a building to check
out!
4) 9/11 Ground Zero Memorial
Stop and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the September 11th
terrorist attacks.
5) Empire State Building and Top of the Rock
The two best lookout points for a photo of the nightscape of New York
(although Top of the Rock is taller and therefore has better photo
opportunities)!

Crystal Carson
Central Piedmont Community College
Crystal Carson is a Housing Department Intern for the 2012
Democratic National Convention Committee. In 2008, Crystal
moved to Charlotte, N.C. to attend college at Central Piedmont
Community College where her proposal for Peer Pairing, a new
mentoring program at her school was one of the recipients of a
Mobilize.org Democracy 2.0 grant. Over the past year, she has been working
in partnership with staff at CPCC to plan for the implementation of this new
program.

AthenaBridge
Lucas Cioffi is a civic entrepreneur in Washington, D.C. Lucas’
company is AthenaBridge which builds software to help citizens
apply critical thinking and deeper deliberation in education,
media, and politics. He is the President of the Board of the Open
Forum Foundation, and he serves on the board of directors of
the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation, a network of 1,500
individuals and organizations working in the area of public engagement.

Mobilize.org
Maya Enista Smith joined the Mobilize.org team in 2005 as
Chief Operating Officer. Today, she is the Chief Executive
Officer of a growing and innovative Millennial organization that
seeks to improve democracy by investing in Millennial-driven
solutions. Maya began her non-profit career 8 years ago as the
East Coast Coordinator for Rock The Vote at age 17. Through her work with
Rock The Vote, Maya registered over 30,000 young people and was awarded
the “Rockin’ The Street’s” award. Maya grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey
and studied Political Science and Urban Studies at Rutgers University. She
currently resides in Washington DC.

Dr. Scott E. Evenbeck is the founding President of The New
Community College at CUNY. Scott served as Professor of
Psychology and was the Founding Dean of University College
at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. He has

Darius Graham received a B.A. summa cum laude from Florida
A&M University and a J.D. from the University of California,

Maria Teresa Guerra
University of California, Los Angeles
Maria Teresa Guerra has attended several conferences, from
Chicago to San Diego, that were based on identifying specific
problems and solutions regarding specific aspects of higher
education: basic developmental classes, student self-efficacy
and Latino student retention, financial literacy for students and
ethnic families, and the organization and welfare of California community
colleges. Maria successfully completed community college in the Spring
of 2011 and is continuing her studies at the University of California, Los
Angeles. Ultimately, Maria aims to become an English/ESL teacher and
continue working with non-profits.

Ralph Hall
Chabot College
Ralph Hall lived with his loving parents for four years before he
was taken and literally forced to enter the foster care system.
Ralph fell victim to three bad foster homes and group homes
that were not good for his physical well-being or mental
health. Although Ralph experienced a traumatic childhood, he
has overcome the sum of his horrors and used his experiences to protect,
motivate, educate and inspire former and in-care foster youth. Ralph is
currently a college student, studying to receive a degree in English. Ralph’s
recently published a book of poetry, “Disproportionate Mirrors. ”

Scott Heiferman | @heif
Meetup
Scott Heiferman is co-founder & CEO of Meetup, where he is
helping spark a revolution in local community. He also founded
i-traffic, a top online ad agency in the 90s. He then fled the
ad industry and was influenced by 9/11 to start Meetup. Scott
graduated from The University of Iowa, then worked at Sony
as their Interactive Marketing Frontiersman. He is an angel investor in
Betaworks, Founders Collective, One Block Off The Grid, 20×200, Catchafire,
ProFounder and others. Scott received the Jane Addams Award from the
National Conference on Citizenship and was named the 2004 MIT Technology
Review Innovator of the Year.

Mary Hines
American Express
Mary Hines is Vice President of Charge Product Management at
American Express. In this role, she is responsible for customer
acquisition, customer loyalty and driving market share, as
well as improving the overall customer experience for Card
members. She is also responsible for developing strategies and
products that appeal to Millennials. Mary received an M.B.A. in Marketing
and Strategic Management from Columbia Business School in New York City,
and earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Boston College.

Alicia Yvette Holmes-Busby
C.O.R.E. Elements, Inc.
Alicia Yvette Holmes-Busby studied Theater Arts at the
University of Texas at Arlington. Alicia began writing and
facilitating various arts-in-education programs for some of
Dallas’ most elite community organizations. Her civic pursuits
have led to the awarding of various major grants including
HUD Neighborhood Networks Grant, Mobilize.org’s Millennial Return on
Investment Grant, City of Dallas’ Office of Cultural Affairs Community Arts
Program, and project management with AARP/LifeTuner College Outreach. In
2011, through a grant made possible by Mobilize.org, Alicia started her own
non-profit organization, C.O.R.E. Elements, Inc.

Susan D. Johnson | @LuminaFound
Lumina Foundation
Susan D. Johnson is a program officer at Lumina Foundation
for education based in Indianapolis, Ind. Her current portfolio
consists of more than 70 grants centered on issues of
preparation, success, and productivity in higher education
designed to increase the proportion of Americans with high-
quality degrees and credentials. Prior to joining Lumina, Susan held
professional positions in student affairs at Louisiana State University and the
University of North Dakota and in institutional research at Indiana University.

Daniel Kaufman | @giveonepercent
One Percent Foundation
Daniel Kaufman is the co-founder of the One Percent
Foundation, an organization building a broad-based movement
of next generation philanthropists by making giving accessible,
engaging, and meaningful. He is also the Co-Founder of Third
Plateau Social Impact Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm that
specializes in designing and implementing innovative next generation
philanthropic engagement opportunities for individuals, non-profits,
foundations, and businesses. Prior to starting OPF and Third Plateau, Daniel
worked as the General Counsel for Revolution Prep, an educational services
and products company, and as an associate at Heller Ehrman, LLP in San
Francisco.

Jennifer Kim | @NJPIRG
New Jersey Public Interest Research Group
Jennifer Kim is the advocate for NJPIRG. Jennifer works on a
variety of issues including consumer safety, public health and
transportation. Prior to joining NJPIRG she was the Assistant
Organizing Director for the CALPIRG Student Chapters based in
Los Angeles.

Adrienne Kupper | @iMentorTweets
iMentor
Adrienne Kupper is the Director of Partnerships for iMentor
Interactive. Adrienne joined iMentor after having spent over
a decade working with students and teachers both in the
classroom and throughout many of New York’s premiere cultural
institutions. As a teaching artist and program administrator,
Adrienne has worked for several theatre and media companies, including
The New Victory Theater, Blue Heron Arts Center, and No Limits Theatre
Group. She also has classroom experience, having been an English and
writing teacher at All Hallows High School in the Bronx.

CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs
Donna Linderman is the University Director of the CUNY
Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) program in
the university’s Office of Academic Affairs. She also provides
oversight of CUNY Prep, a transitional high school for out-
of-school youth that prepares students for both the GED and
college. Donna holds a B.F .A. in theater from the University of Southern
California and an M.F in theater from Brooklyn College.

Nicholas Little
Central Piedmont Community College
Nicholas Little currently serves in the United States Naval
Reserve. While in active duty, he carried out combat duties in
Afghanistan, counter-narcotics duties in Panama, Colombia,
Guatemala, and Ecuador, and short-term duty with DoNCAF
or Navy Legal in North Carolina. In 2009 Nicholas enrolled at
Central Piedmont Community College as a student. Lastly he was a Millennial
of the Target 2020 North Carolina Summit. Nicholas aspires to be a politician
and wants to do all he can to enable the public to have successful lives in
our country.

Moses Magali
NYC Center for Economic Opportunity
Moses Magali is an advisor for the NYC Center for Economic
Opportunity, Mayor Bloomberg’s poverty laboratory. In this
role, Moses manages a portfolio of anti-poverty initiatives
designed to engage the city’s disconnected youth population.
He also oversees the Center’s data and performance reporting,
and the architecture of CEO’s performance management system. Moses
joined CEO in 2008 after receiving his B.A. in Government & Politics from St.
John’s University.

William McNulty | @TeamRubicon
Team Rubicon
William McNulty is the co-founder of Team Rubicon and serves
on the Board of Directors. He is a Marine who served in both
the infantry and Intelligence. He has worked in support of the
Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Council’s
Iraq Threat Finance Cell, and the Under Secretary of Defense
for Intelligence. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Communication Studies
from the University of Kansas and an M.A. in Government/Security from The

Greg Ratliff is a senior program officer at the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation in the Postsecondary Success program area,

Christine G. Rhee is Manager of Philanthropy at American

Leadership giving theme, the American Express Leadership Academy, which
brings the nations top emerging non-profit leaders for intensive training at
American Express headquarters.

Knowledge As Power
Sarah Schacht is a leading visionary, creating the tools and
strategies necessary to increase citizen participation in the
legislative process, as well as improve government interaction
with constituents. She is the founder and Executive Director
of KnowledgeAsPower.org (KAP), which uses a triangulated
approach - KAP Citizen, KAP Advising and KAP Community - to grow and
build open- government efficacy.

Kairos Society
Victoria Schramm is the President of the Kairos Society, a
student-run international organization that aims to catalyze an
economy of innovation by fostering a global community of top

New York City. Under Veronica’s direction, CEO launched 40
new programs, including Opportunity NYC, the nation’s first
conditional cash transfer program. She practiced law at the firms of Brown
& Wood and Sidley & Austin. Veronica received a Master of Arts in Law
and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a Juris
Doctorate from the Harvard Law School.

Team Rubicon
Jake Wood graduated from the University of Wisconsin, where
he played football, with a double major in Business and Political
Science. He honorably served four years in the United States
Marine Corps, deploying to Iraq in 2007 as an infantry squad
leader and to Afghanistan in 2008 as a Scout-Sniper Assistant
Team Leader. He graduated the Scout-Sniper Basic Course at the top of his
class and was the Jim Gulardi Award recipient. In 2007 he was awarded the
Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” for valor in the face

Dom Aiava is Samoan and currently resides in San Francisco, Calif. Dom is

Anthony Alo
Anthony Alo is an honors student and served in the U.S. Navy from 1996-2000.
Anthony has held many positions on campus within Student Government
and Veterans club. He is the current president of Sigma Chi Eta at Central
Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. Anthony graduated with his
A.A. this summer and has decided to continue his education at CPCC and
enrolled in the Substance Abuse Counseling program. Upon completion,
Anthony will continue on to UNCC for a B.A. in Communications and a
Masters in Psychology.

Jose Arreola | @rose4mconcrete
Jose Arreola was born in Durango, Mexico and came to the United States
when he was four years old. With the unconditional love and support of his
family, Jose went on to study Political Science, History and Ethnic Studies
at Santa Clara University — where he received a full scholarship. During
Jose’s college career, he was an outspoken leader on campus around
issues of racism, inequality, and oppression as the Executive Director of the
Multicultural Center. As an undocumented student himself, he utilizes his
experiences to help empower and support other undocumented students
nationally as the Outreach Manager at Educators for Fair Consideration.

Mike Berkowikz | @ mikeberkowitz
Mike Berkowitz is President and co-founder of the One Percent Foundation,
a non-profit organization working to create a broad-based movement of next
generation philanthropists by making giving more accessible, engaging, and
meaningful for young adults. Mike is also co-founder & CEO of Third Plateau
Social Impact Strategies, LLC. A native of New York City, Mike lives in San
Francisco. He has a B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Brown University.

Patrick Busby
Patrick Busby began his pursuit of community development in the year 2000
on a self-empowered mission to feed and clothe the homeless community
of Dallas, Texas. It was at that time he reunited with his long time friend
Alicia Holmes (whom he married two years later) and the two began to work
with a broad spectrum of youth and adults, offering community development
programs. Patrick is now Program Director of C.O.R.E. Elements, Inc. As a
certified massage therapist, he offers a unique blend of health and wellness
programs coupled with life skills.

William Case
William Case is originally from Kingston, Jamaica. William grew up in a home
with two loving parents and five siblings. He is a biology major at Central
Piedmont Community College. William serves as Student Government
President for CPCC, and is also involved with a few other clubs on campus.
He is a team partner of the Peer Pairing mentorship program.

Juan Castro
Juan Castro graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University
in 2000. Since college, he worked in marketing in India, taught math in his
hometown of Salinas, taught English in South Korea, and now is taking pre-
pharmacy classes and will apply to pharmacy school next year. Juan enjoys
traveling, foreign languages, and is taking judo lessons.

Jade Flader | @JadeFlader
Jade Flader is a student, attaining an A.A. Degree in Speech Communication
at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif. and will then transfer to a 4-year
university to receive a B.A. in Film Production. Jade works part-time at
Mobilize.org as the California Community Mobilizer. She enjoys helping
others succeed and part of her job is to organize effective Millennial Meetups
that will empower her peers to continue their activism, which will lead
them to becoming our leaders one day. She enjoys volunteering, traveling,
studying, filming, art, meeting new people and learning new cultures.

Jany Huynh
Jany Huynh was born in Thailand, in a refugee camp. After Jany’s family was
freed back to Vietnam, they were promised that they would be able to obtain
residency in America. Jany was an immigrant in the U.S. for 13 years, and is
currently a citizen. The hardships and culture barriers her family encountered
during the early years in America inspired her to stay involved in the Asian
community. Since Jany joined Preparing Asian Pacific American Youth
Advocate in high school, she has learned the importance of representing her
race and culture by staying informed and involved, and that is her inspiration
for being an active Millennial today.

Allison Jones | @ajlovesya
Allison Jones is a Brooklyn based blogger and advocate for Millennial
leadership in public service. She blogs at allisonj.org on the future of
non-profit leadership and her work has been featured in the Chronicle of
Philanthropy, The Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Daily News, and more.
Allison is currently the External Affairs Manager at Explore Schools, a
network of high performing public schools in Brooklyn and is on the board
of the New York City Chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network,
an organization that supports the professional development of the next
generation of non-profit leaders.

Cliff Mayo | @CliffMayo
Cliff Mayo graduated from Iowa State in 2009 with a degree in political
science. He attended the Millennial Return on Investment Summit in Chicago
and was introduced to the world of civic action. A year ago, Clifford was
given the opportunity relocate to Washington, D.C. and serve Mobilize.org.
This new environment stimulated his passion to find creative solutions to big
problems. Though his interests are many, he strongly desires to research and
advocate for progressive socioeconomic policies.

Leroy Mikell | @phatographer
Leroy Mikell attended the Beyond the Welcome Home Summit. Leroy was
a broadcast journalist in the Army from 2001-2005. Leroy graduated from
college in May 2009. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Photography and
hopes to own a business.

Zandra Minor
Zandra works with AthenaBridge, a D.C.-based tech startup which creates
space for deeper deliberation in politics, media, and education.

Elitininanesi Moore
Elitininanesi Moore is a sophomore at City College of San Francisco, and is an
active leader-organizer of the club, Students Making a Change. Elitininanesi,
along with other leader-organizers, represent the under-represented
community of students at CCSF and fight for the equity of educational
success. An active member of Students Advocating for Equity and Pacific
Islanders Club, Elitininanesi attacks the issues that face her Pacific Islander
community, as well as educates others about the beauty of the culture.

Awa Ndiaye | @Callmeemedusa
Awa Ndiaye is an international student of West African origin (Dakar, Senegal,
but French by birth.) Awa’s native language is Wolof, which is an African
dialect, and her official language is French. She came to the United States
four years ago as a junior at Albion Senior High in Michigan. She transferred
to Durham Technical Community College in North Carolina. Awa is majoring
in accounting. She is a representative of the international club at Durham
Tech and is also a senator in the student body government.

Emily Pakes is a junior English major at North Carolina Central University.
Emily overcame homelessness and graduated with honors from Durham
Technical Community College last semester and hopes her experience
will inspire others facing adversity. She aspires to be a remedial English

Marc Peters holds a B.A. in Policy Studies and Newspaper Journalism from
Syracuse University. Marc is currently a graduate student at the Clinton
School of Public Service. Marc has distinguished himself in politics working
for Mark Critz’s successful special election congressional campaign. From
2007-2008, Marc worked as national student blog director for the Obama for
America presidential campaign. In 2004, he was inducted as a Horatio Alger
National Scholar and in 2007 was recognized as one of the top 65 public
servants in his graduating class by the Harry S. Truman Foundation.

Kimmy Rohrs is a senior economics major at James Madison University.
Kimmy loves her college town, Harrisonburg, and dedicates time to serving it

Emily S. Ryan is a general advocate and activist in Portland, Ore. She is a full-
time student at Marylhurst University. She has been involved with Mobilize.
org since 2004, serving as the lead planner for the Portland March Across
America event. Emily started her advocacy with youth voice issues, including
homeless programs, services, school, family, and government. Since then
she has added on environmental, LGBTQ, and racial justice issues. As an
interdisciplinarian by nature, she not only looks at the issues individual, but

Nick Troiano | @nicktroiano
Nick R. Troiano is the National Campus Director for Americans Elect, a
nonpartisan organization that is empowering voters to nominate a third
presidential ticket through an online convention in June 2012. He is also
pursuing a master’s degree in American government at Georgetown
University where he is spearheading the establishment of the first student-
funded Social Innovation and Public Service Fund. Nick is a former United
