Basic Mantras/Guidelines
• Keep in mind that
  mobilization is content,
  context, and taskspecific
• Mobile requires a smaller,
  simpler version of a
  website that focuses on
  information and services
• Make the redirection to
  the mobile site automatic
  but allow access to the
  full site, ideally permitting
  mobile users to follow
  deep links into the site

   • Define the use cases (for
     example, find a product price,
     find a store near you, call us,
     or perform a search).
   • Order the use cases by the
     most frequent for a mobile
     user. Use your best guess,
     statistical information, and
     usability tests to keep this
     order updated.
   • Simplify: Do your best to
     make every use case
     successful in no more than
     three clicks or at a page depth
     of no more than three.
   • Touch/Swipe Friendly

                       Don’t skimp on the content!
            Having a “light” site doesn’t mean you should leave
                 out content from it. Some service providers
               apparently think that mobile users don’t need all
             that content – wrong! It’s a sure way to annoy and
              cause problems for people if you put one tenth of
              your content or shortened versions of articles on
                                 the mobile site.

  • #5: Again, not sure where a point like this would sit, but I would also mention ensuring you consider the overall user experience across multiple devices. You talk about ensuring visual brand consistency but I think it goes a little further than that. I don't know anyone who's sole experience of all things online is via a mobile device. To some extent, its about how you design and structure content and where you place functionality - and where you send people to standard websites because that is the best experience for a particular interaction.Where does the tablet fit in – another 4 hours of debateFlash is dead or has solved a problem that doesn’t exist anymore

  • #7: Note that in the Far East it’s the mobile, not the web that’s the primary internet device
  • #8: think about a mobile solution is not simply about considering people on the go.Why? Mobile is mobile, the user is in transit or idle somewhere ready to be in transit, they're not "parked" at their computer where they may not mind lengthy input or process. Mobile needs to be in bit size chunks, easy to pop in an digest.On page 2 when talking about redirecting to the mobile site I think it is important to allow user to follow deep links into the site, whether this means that they view the full version of the site first (and therefore the page they were looking for) with the option to switch to the mobile version (i.e. it's not automatic redirection). Or the site can handle the deep link whilst moving the user to the mobile version of the site. The later option may be difficult to implement especially if the original deep link does not have a mobile equivalent.
  • #9: Depending on the device, a design ethos should include being 'thumb friendly'. This doesn't necessarily mean that people always use their thumbs to interact with their device, but the design should be usable for all people, however big or cumbersome their hands and digits may be (no staring at my hands!). This doesn't necessarily mean bigger targets - you can often achieve the same result by allowing for bigger spaces between targets.How account sells “a side of mobile”
  • #10: This may be more of an internal consideration, but I've always made a point that structural and functional navigation devices can work very differently on mobile. Tabs aren't always as effective and faceted search/navigation should be treated very differently. Again, this goes back to ensuring the content is fit for a mobile site.Similarly, I think its more important on a mobile site that the navigational model remains consistent. Mobile sites should avoid using too many different models - avoiding jumping between a 'hub and spoke' approach and a hierarchical model.
  • #13: Another Example: Website may have a call to action page suggesting user create a sign in or create one for their site, with links to sign in and sign up, 3 pages total, on the mobile, combine them together (one page for intro and sign in, one page for sign up page).   • #15: But digestible chunks doesn't mean less content. Though a hershey's kiss is small, if I eat enough, I've eaten a whole candy barI would extend mobilizing content to include personalisation and localisation. And make a point that this is no longer limited to apps - HTML5 and JQuery makes some of the rich, localised interaction possible on mobile sites too.

  • #19: Thousands of Mobile Handsets: For mobile developers, it is one of the biggest challenges that they may ever face. In order to develop a mobile application, one needs to be very sure about the devices they are targeting. According to a research 1388.2 million handsets were sold in year 2010.Thease devices are of different screen sizes, input methods (QWERTY, touch, normal) with different hardware capabilities. Knowing the fact that testing on every device is not possible and feasible at all, the diversity in handsets is a big challenge for Mobile developers.2) Different Mobile Platforms/OS: There are different Platforms/OS currently present in the market. Android, IOS, BREW, BREWMP, Symbian, Windows 7, Blackberry (RIM) and so on. Diversity in mobile platforms, different OS versions and platform limitations make it a bit difficult and challenging for developing mobile apps and so for testing them.
