Modifiers  are  words, phrases, or clauses that provide description in sentences . Modifiers allow writers to take the picture that they have in their heads and transfer it accurately to the heads of their readers
Take a look at this "dead" sentence: Stephen dropped his fork. With modifiers: Poor  Stephen,  who just wanted a quick meal to get through his three-hour biology lab ,  quickly  dropped his fork  on the cafeteria.
MODIFIERS CAN BE: Adjectives :  Poor  Stephen Adjective clauses : Poor Stephen  who just wanted a quick meal Adverbs: quickly  dropped his fork Prepositional phrase: on the cafeteria
MODIFIERS PREMODIFIERS  POSTMODIFIERS Poor  Stephen,  who just wanted a quick meal to get through his three-hour biology lab ,  quickly  dropped his fork  on the cafeteria.
ACTIVITY Think about a funny or interesting anectode that you  or someone you know has lived. In groups of three or four, share your memories. Write your and your partner’s story in at least 15 lines (each) using premodifiers and postmodifiers. Hand in to your teacher.
