This document provides guidance for identifying the communicative skills to be developed in a student through a unit plan on ancient Rome. It instructs the reader to identify the content language or vocabulary words and structures that will be taught, the basic interpersonal classroom language that will be used, and scaffolded language sentences that will help students develop the unit, work in groups, and express their opinions. Examples are given for each category, including vocabulary words about the Roman army, infrastructure, and culture; common classroom questions and phrases; and questions and prompts to facilitate discussion and evaluation of aspects of Roman society and legacy.
