Websites & Social Networking
• Bruce Springsteen is a guy that has been so successful within
the Music industry for so many years, his dedication to social
media is not one of his strength.
• Springsteen's target market is an older crowd (approx ages
25+)
• Springsteen's fans have been using Ticketmaster to see when
his next concert is in their city for years
• Yes, Springsteen makes announcements over his Twitter
account, Facebook page, and YouTube account, however he is
not as active whatsoever, compared to musicians that have
younger crowds, such as Justin Bieber or Katy Perry.
Online Communities
• Besides the various social media’s that Springsteen uses to
communicate to fans, he also like to demonstrate good deeds
• Springsteen was named the 2013 MusiCares person of the
year
• Springsteen doesn’t donate a lot to charities through just
simply handing over money
• Instead, he likes host large outdoor concerts in order to raise
money or awareness for certain causes
• An example of a recent act of this done by Springsteen, was
his outdoor concert in honour of the destruction from
Hurricane Sandy
• He chose to have this take place on December 12, 2012 (1212-12)
Springsteen’s Audience
• Bruce Springsteen has been so successful within the
music industry for so many years
• At the age of 64 he is still a top commodity within the
music industry
• Springsteen just came out with another album
• That usually means he will be going on tour once again
• At the age of 64 it could be argued that he’s at the peak
of his career
• Springsteen was selling out venues with over 80,000
seat capacities
Springsteen’s Audience
• Since Springsteen has been successful in the
music industry for decades, it’s evident that he
has found, and still secures his audience
• Even though his career is winding down to the
end, it’s important that he and his management
team continue to work within the technological
era that were in, otherwise he may got lost within
the music industry soon
• Social media is the new way of music industry
and if Springsteen doesn’t adapt to it then new
upcoming stars may steal his spotlight
Meaningful/Shareable Content
• Springsteen’s music has always be written about the
thoughts going on in his head
• He likes to write a lot of music based on the tough
times in life
• An example of this is his songs, Devils and Dust, Better
Days, Born in the U.S.A
• These songs discuss the hard times growing up as a
child, and how he overcame that, which has lead to all
of his successes today
• Through Springsteen’s lyrics within his music, is what
really connects himself with so many fans in the U.S
and around the world
Engaging Current Fans
• Springsteen is fortunate that at this point in his
life, he owns the music market within his genre
• There isn’t much competition for him, however
he has to continue to produce for people to
continue to engage
• That’s why he just came out with his new album
called “High Hopes” in January 2014
• A new album usually means another new tour for
Mr. Springsteen
Engaging Current Fans (Con’t)
• The way Springsteen has been successful his life is
based on continuing to amaze, and physically engage
with the audience, as he still does at every concert
• Examples of this are jumping into the crowd, or letting
people sing some of his songs with him, which many
artists are afraid to do in this day and age, for security
reasons
• The one thing Springsteen is not doing is trying to get
more of the target market, such as attract teenagers to
his music
• One way he might be able to do this is through
incorporating some more classic rock to his style
Continue Social Push
• This is something that is so easy for some musicians
and difficult for others
• This is not a strength of Springsteen’s, simply because
he’s a 64 year old man that is new to social media, and
may not have grasp the concept so quickly
• The bottom line is their are much less adults on social
media’s such a Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, and
adults are Springsteen’s target market
• Meaning, despite Springsteen lack of engagement
through social media, majority of his fans aren’t relying
on him to be active on social media anyways
Continue Social Push (Con’t)
• Just to put it into perspective with one of the most
popular social media’s today in twitter
• Bruce Springsteen has sent out 2025 tweets all time,
and has 564 000 followers.
• Justin Bieber has sent out over 26 000 tweets, and has
49.8 Million followers
• Katy Perry has sent out 5411 tweets, and has 50.8
Million followers
• The bottom line is Springsteen doesn’t engage as much
with his fans, however majority of his fans may or may
not be in need of him to engage back through online
communication
Post Consistently
• Springsteen does NOT post consistently about many
things
• Touched a lot about his lack of social media
engagement
• The only thing that Springsteen tries to consistently
advertise is when New Album’s are coming out, tour
dates, and if he is having a charity outdoor concert
• For any of these announcements Springsteen mostly
uses radio advertisement space, Ticketmaster, and
newspaper articles
• Again, for his target market these are arguably the best
ways to grab his audiences attention and inform them
of any big news
