Introduction
 The BESS programme enables students to
study business jointly with either Economics,
Political Science or Sociology. The common
first year of BESS introduces you to a broad
range of disciplines that will help you make
sense of the complex world in which we live
today. From the second year onwards, the
flexible structure of the BESS programme
allows you to pursue these interests in greater
breadth and depth.

The module introduces students to the nature and form of
organisations and their management, indicating their
importance in society and why the study of their form,
management and performance constitutes one of the
disciplines of the social sciences. The module is structured
around five key themes: the historical context of
organisations; the competitive environment of organisations;
modes of organising; managing people and finally,
managing today.
Junior Freshman (1st Year)
This module introduces fundamental concepts and techniques
of modern finance. It starts with reviewing the nature and role
of financial markets, institutions and securities. The module
proceeds with the presentation of the key tools used by
financial managers and investors in analysis and decision
making. The theoretical models and assumptions underlying
the development of modern financial techniques will also be
examined. On completion of the module students should be
able to understand the principles underlying the working of
most financial markets, to carefully evaluate investment
opportunities and understand associated risks.
Senior Freshman (2nd Year)
This module is a survey module in financial management. It will cover these and
other topics:
Bond pricing
Types of fixed interest instruments
Duration and convexity
Bond portfolio management
Equity Markets
Derivatives Markets
Market Indices
Bubbles And Crashes
Capital Budgeting
The Dividend Decision
Hedging
International Finance
Junior Sophister (3rd Year)
This module examines theory and empirical
evidence relating to the interaction between
financial markets and the corporate sector. The
module is divided into three broad areas:
corporate investment
capital markets
corporate financial structure.
