Morocco has a long history dating back 8000 BC when it was inhabited by Berbers. It came under Roman rule and then Arab rule in the 7th century AD, when Islam was introduced. Today, Morocco is a parliamentary democracy led by Prime Minister Abbes El Farsi and King Mohammed VI. The culture is diverse, with 98% of people being Arab-Berber; traditional garb like djellabas are commonly worn. Most of Morocco has a desert climate, with 12% forest cover and sunny, dry weather overall except in mountainous inland areas. The wildlife includes over 454 bird species that have adapted to the arid environment along with small rodents.
