CLOUD FIRST, MOBILE FIRST Approach
Katpro Technologies Pvt Ltd, Bangalore
What is Cloud ?
An approach to computing that’s about internet scale and
connecting to a variety of devices and end points.
Key Characteristics of Cloud:
• Pool of Shared Resources
• Elasticity or Scalability
• Self Service or Automation
• Any Where access
Why Cloud ?
Cloud Computing
Is a type of computing in which large groups of remote servers are
networked to allow the centralize data storage and online access to
computer services or resources.
Separation Of Responsibilities
On- Premise
Cloud Platform
Cloud innovation presents challenges for IT
Advantages Of Cloud computing for Businesses
• Pay as You use
• Reduce Costs
• Backup & Recovery
• Scalability
• Flexibility
• Environment Friendly
• Collaboration Efficiency
• Disaster Recovery
Microsoft Azure – Bringing Cloud to your Enterprise
It is a Microsoft’s cloud platform: a growing collection of integrated services—compute,
storage, data, networking, and application—that help you move faster, do more, and save
money.
Microsoft
Azure
1. It is a Combination Of IaaS and PaaS
2. It is Hybrid Ready
3. It is Open & Flexible
4. It is always Up, always On
5. It is economical & Scalable
Microsoft
Comprehensive set of
services that enable you to
quickly build, deploy and
manage applications across a
global network of Microsoft-
managed datacenters
What you can do with Azure ?
• Build Infrastructure
• Virtual Machines, Virtual Network, Storage, Backup
• Develop Modern Applications
• Websites, Mobile services, Integration, Dev- test
• Gain Insights from data
• SQL Database, HD Insight
• Manage Identity and Access
• Active Directory, Multi Factor Authentication

Infrastructure as a service
It is a provision model in which an organization outsources the equipment used to
support operations include:
• Storage
• Hardware
• Servers
• Networking components
The service provider owns the equipment and is responsible for housing, running and
maintaining it.
Set of Infrastructure level capabilities that are delivered as pay per use services and can
be used to host applications.
Platform as a Service
An externally hosted service providing a platform that is complete to create, run and operate
applications including development tools, run time environment, database management, web
servers etc..
Application developers can develop and run the software solutions on cloud platform without the
cost and complexity of buying & managing the underlying hardware and software layers.
Benefits:
• Significant savings in development time & cost
• Infrastructural savings
• Savings in Testing & QA efforts
• Savings in development efforts
• Lower Risk
Benefits Of IaaS:
• Allows IT to shift focus on bringing new applications & solutions
• Hassle free Service
• Utility Service ( Pay per use )
• Dynamic Scaling
• Multiple Users can access the same infrastructure
• No Upfront Investment
• Reduces total cost of Ownership
• Flexible Offering
• Enables green IT

Consideration On- Premise Cloud
IT Infrastructure Established IT support with software
domain expertise & a solid backup and
security strategy
Limited or no internal it resources & or
no desire to invest in or support
additional IT Infrastructure
Access Client server for local workers or
Terminal Server or Citrix for remote
employees.
Any where and in any devices
Company profile Established companies with the ability
to make the required upfront
investment to purchase and implement
the software. Minimum timeframe for
an on premise solution should be 5 – 7
years.
Fast growing companies who want to
invest in an affordable solution capable
of growing with them and want the
flexibility of anywhere, anytime access
without investing in IT infrastructure.
On Going services Investment
Software upgrades every 12 – 24
months; technical support and business
process consulting as necessary.
Business process consulting as
necessary.
On- Premise Vs Cloud
Consideration On- Premise Cloud
Remote Locations Have multiple sites across geographic
locations and have a supporting
network infrastructure.
Have multiple sites or many geographic
locations but do not want to build or
support remote access to existing
network.
Software Investment License fee enables the company to
own the software. Upfront purchase
with annual maintenance / subscription
renewals in the 20 – 25% range.
License fee enables the company to use
the software. One predictable monthly
payment covers everything from
infrastructure and vendor software
support to daily back-ups and software
upgrades.
Hardware Investment
Traditional IT components including
server hardware and software, data
backups, storage, disaster recovery, and
remote access and network
connectivity
A reliable Internet connection
Consideration On- Premise Cloud
User Interface Mature technology with a traditional
Windows interface.
Web technology that enables an
intuitive, customizable interface and
many of the user-friendly features
Internet users have grown accustomed
to in web-based applications.
Software Customization In-depth customization and integration
capabilities; appropriate for companies
with a high-degree of customization or
a need for extensive custom
programming services.
Think “configuration”, not heavy
customization
Implementation Time
Varies by project size and scope, but
implementation time tends to be a bit
longer and more involved, perhaps
adding 1 – 2 months to the timeline of
a comparable cloud-based
implementation.
Varies by project size and scope, but
implementation time tends to be less
than on-premise solutions since
installation, infrastructure prep, and
some configuration are completed by
the SaaS vendor.

Benefits of Microsoft Azure
• High availability of application & data
• Rapid provisioning of application to new customers
• Flexibility to support small to the very largest of the customers
• Avoids upfront cost of purchasing hardware and software licenses
• Total cost of ownership will be less compared to on premise
• Faster time to market due to usage of existing applications
• It supports world wide deployments
• Data Centre in the cloud

Editor's Notes

  • #15: Allows IT to shift Focus: With the quick availability of IaaS services, infrastructure delivered as a service (ready to consumer), it frees an organization to leverage and focus their time and resources in bringing innovations in applications and solutions. Hassle free service: Each infrastructure component is provided as a service. For ex: hardware –as-a -service , server –as-a -service, computing –as-a -service, storage –as-a -service. This adds lot of flexibility to anyone looking for only specific services. This is also important as not all client requirements are not created equal. Some require more computing power and others more storage. Dynamic Scaling: Scales up and down of Infrastructure services based on the application usage, best for the applications where there are significantly spikes and troughs on the usage of infrastructures. This again is one of the pillars of cloud computing services. IaaS services can be quickly scaled up in case of upturn in demand and scaled down when there is low demand. This adds enormous flexibility and optimal utilization of resources and money.
  • #30: Speaking Points: Windows Azure is commercially available in over 89 countries and territories. Anyone within these countries can sign up for a free trial or a paid subscription to use Windows Azure services Of course you can build and deliver solutions to any of your customers worldwide.
  • #34: Speaking Points: All of the features I demoed today are available now either in released or preview form. The services that had the preview tag next to them in the management portal are currently in preview mode, meaning that they are not yet final. These services will be coming out of preview next calendar year. Working hard on getting them done as soon as possible. If you haven’t gotten started yet with Windows Azure, I encourage you to go to WindowsAzure.com and sign-up for an account. If you have an MSDN subscription you can activate up to $3700 worth of yearly Windows Azure benefits. Otherwise you can sign-up for a free trial and get started.
