This document presents a project to develop a home appliance control system using a microcontroller, GSM network, and SMS messages. The system aims to allow remote control of appliances in a cheap and simple way compared to existing wireless solutions. The major components are an AT89S52 microcontroller, GSM modem, relay circuits, and interfaces to appliances. The microcontroller communicates with the GSM modem via a serial interface to send and receive SMS commands to control relays and appliances from a remote cell phone. The system is designed for applications like appliance control, security systems, and home entertainment control from outside the home.

- 3. Reasons for choosing this project :Objective of this project is to control our home appliance from remote area. There are many home wireless based devices for controlling processes, but they are more expensive. So here we are using all the basic components that are used in our daily life like cell phones, Sim card, GSM modem etc which make our project cheaper and very simple to use.
- 4. Project details : Aim of the ‘project ‘ Is to develop a system based on Embedded micro controller ,which is used for controlling various appliances at home using GSM network and which provides a security feature. The major hardware interfaces to micro controller are LCD display and a modem(GSM).Also the appliances are interfaced to the micro controller that are to be controlled. A serial driver IC is used for serial data transmission.
- 7. Relay : A relay is used to isolate one electrical circuit from another. It allows a low current control circuit to make or break an electrically isolated high current circuit path.
- 8. GSM MODEM
- 9. GSM is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. It is based on TDMA (time division multiple access) technology. We are using the SIMCOM 300, a GSM modem . This is a powerful GSM/GPRS Terminal with self-contained unit. This has standard connector interfaces and has an integral SIM card reader. The modem has a RJ9 connector through which a speaker and microphone can be connected allowing audio calls being established, but this feature is not utilized in this project as only data transfer is needed.

- 14. Conclusion:This document presents a mobile controlled and user-friendly approach to the available home automation system. This system can easily be implemented because of its wireless communication standards. Till now, we have researched the literatures for all the topics that include GSM automation system using SMS. Then we have to built the main control program, hardware and the warning system via GSM network (with SMS).
