MV Production Assignment Evaluation Form 2021

RESEARCH
The band was pretty easy to research about because they
were famous at a part in their career. Their song ‘Power
Of Love’ was featured in the 1985 blockbuster film Back
To The Future. The research helped my product, as I
understood the band more.
In the brief summary of the band (Huey Lewis and the
News) I could have put more about where they were each
from and when they were born. I could have also put
more about any great peaks in popularity during their
performing years. If I had done this it may have had a
positive impact on my product. It may have been an
entirely different music video.

PLANNING
When I was planning my music video, I spent a lot of
time writing lots of detailed ideas down, so that I had
things all planned out. The planning help construct my
product because I had an idea of what I wanted to
achieve. I made the goals that I wanted to complete,
when making the music video, realistic so that I could
manage to do them.
My planning ideas changed as I realised that hiring a
studio wasn’t going to be an option anymore. This was
because it was too expensive to hire out, and I didn’t
have enough time out of college to film. Something that I
could’ve done better would have to plan the video’s
location in simple places where I wouldn’t have to travel
very far to get the footage that I would need. This would

TIME MANAGEMENT
At the start of the planning part of the project I was a
little bit behind because I was struggling with the work,
but then nearer the end of the planning PowerPoint I got
things done a lot faster. With the filming I got that done
in the suggested amount of time. As with the editing,
and the evaluation. I think that I had completed the
planning in less time, that my overall product would have
been better because I would have had more time. If I had
more time to produce my music video I would have
probably directed the performers better, had it all
planned out in my head, and thoroughly explained it to
the performers. I was supposed to have someone in my
music video, but they were able to come into the college
for 2 weeks starting on the day that we were filming. It
was quite annoying when I found out, however I had a
back-up performer who I had to use.

TECHNICAL QUALITIES
- CAMERA
In the original music video, made by Huey
Lewis and the News, there were a lot of
different camera shots taken from quite a
few different angles and heights. The
camera quality is not very good here.
In my music video the camera was facing
forwards the whole time, it may seem a bit
boring, however the change in locations
makes it better. The camera quality is a
lot nicer here. In mine I have lots of
different clips from other students in the
video, you could say that there are

TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
In the original video they use a few
transitioning videos, but for the other clips
they cut to them. They have just a black
background, so it’s not that exciting.
In my music video I also used transitioning
videos to step into the next clip. For the
background I had a green screen there, so
that I could put any background I wanted
behind the performers. I also, sometimes,
added effects to the background images.

AESTHETIC
QUALITIES
I do think that my music
video looks good. It
suits it’s purpose to
give the audience the
music, and it also could
keep them entertained.
I think that there
were some good
original creative
ideas in there.
What I like about the
visuals is that they are
all different and
interesting. And in some
of the clips nearer the
start of the video, have
vehicles or animals
moving behind the
performers.
To improve the video
I would add some
pictures to the
background of the
performers at the
instrumental and
solo. I would also at
lighting effects and
more objects moving
to clips in the second
half of the song. It
would be pretty easy
to add in, I’d be
doing the same sort
of things that I will
have already done.
Strength:
I would say that it
works as a music
video, and would
keep the audience
entertained whilst
they are listening to

I don’t think that it is at
it’s best final form. I
could’ve added more
objects moving in the
background in the
second half, in order to

AUDIENCE
APPEAL
I feel like these are specific
parts that would appeal to
my target audience because
the performers are set in a
location that would be a
good place for a hike. I feel
like these are the sort of
places that my target
audience would like to visit.
I imagine my target audience
to be men who are 30 – 50
years old. Who like going on
long walks in places like this,
and listening to jazzy / blues
music. I feel like they also,
like to take beautiful photos.

What did you like about the product?
 I think your video is very good and very creative. I think it went well
with the song and was a good use of green screen footage. The
quality of the video was great and the visuals of the video was
visually pleasing. It was a good use of effects and filters and I love
the range of effects that you used in the video so that it stayed
interesting rather than the same background throughout. I love the
range and creativity of each background chosen too.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
 Something you could improve on is adding more details in the
editing. You have animated objects in the first few clips and then
suddenly they stop. Finishing this and adding more transitions and
animation would have made the video very interesting as it started
well and got very basic towards the end. Finally it would have been
better if you had had more time, to finish editing and edit those last
few green screen bits too rather than leaving them green.

I liked the special effects and I thought the boy on the
left was really good at lip syncing/acting.

I like the effects that you used and the green screen it
enhances the video and makes it more engaging.
The lip syncing matches the audio, so you synced the actors
well.

If you would have added some transitions or effects that were
on time to the beat it would have made the video more
engaging and broken up some of the long clips and kept the
video smooth.

What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
 I think that all the comments were fair. I agree with all of
them, the positives and the negatives.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
 I don’t disagree with any of the feedback. I think that they
were all good comments.

PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
 Most of the positive feedback was saying that the video was
creative, and the green screen added an extra layer of interest
for the audience.
 Other comments said that the lip syncing lined up really well
with the song audio.
 The improvement comments were all saying that I could have
done a bit better when editing the music video. I should have
had more transitions between clips, and added more object
moving behind the performers because it would have
engaged interest from the viewers whilst they were watching.
