INTRODUCTION
It’s the world of technological revolution or explosion. Both are suit to describe our
technological progress. The rapid pace at which technology is transforming the process of
learning in many countries is almost unbelievable. The imperceptible momentum gathered by the
engines of technology while at work in education will change the entire learning scenario like
nothing else during the next few years. What is really amazing is that the developments are being
telescoped into shorter and shorter time spans and this is the crux of the matter. As a result, the
learning tools at the command of the children are getting more effective and sophisticated. At the
root of this revolution are the personal computer, the television set, video cassettes, the satellite
network and what not. And there is no stopping this avalanche of change as the world
approaches the 21st century. Our commerce teachers cannot keep away from these changes.
Commerce and technology are closely related with each other. Information and Communication
Technology’s innovations are widening the scope of Commerce in several ways.
The pressure for schools and colleges to reform and faculty to change the method of
instruction have intensified during the last decade Until teachers use the computer and become
comfortable and confident using the computer, the computer may remain an isolated tool with
either the potential to increase student learning, or the potential to increase the amount of dust it
collects. E- Commerce and increasing tendency of Business get a strong back born due to
Technology innovations.
In recent years there has been a groundswell of interest in how computers and the Internet
can best be harnessed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of education at all levels and in
both formal and non-formal settings. But ICTs are more than just these technologies; older
technologies such as the telephone, radio and television, although now given less attention, have
a longer and richer history as instructional tools. For instance, radio and television have for over
forty years been used for open and distance learning, although print remains the cheapest, most
accessible and therefore most dominant delivery mechanism in both developed and developing
countries. The use of computers and the Internet is still in its infancy in developing countries, if
these are used at all, due to limited infrastructure and the attendant high costs of access.
ICT INTEGRATED INSTRUCTION IN THE TEACHING-
LEARNING OF COMMERCE AT HIGHER SECONDARY
LEVEL
ICTs stand for information and communication technologies and are defined, for the
purposes of this primer, as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to
communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.” These technologies
include computers, the Internet, broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and telephony.
The use of information and communication technology (ICT) such as Internet applications,
CD-ROMs, video technology and various computer attachments and software programs have caused
many changes in society. These changes have not just been of a technical nature but more
importantly of a structural nature. Many of the major institutions of our society have changed and
the way we live our daily lives have been impacted. However, the impact on education may just
beginning to be felt as teachers integrate this new technology into their teaching. In the early stages
of the use of ICT in teaching, looking at the experiences of teachers at a high school in the forefront
provides some clues as to what possibilities and problems may be presented with this new
technology.
Information and communication technology are becoming an important part of the life.
Rapidly developing virtual education and distant learning methods are replacing the classical
methods of education. IT and Computers are widely used to expand teaching possibilities. As
education is a complex process in which human and technical resources should be used very
carefully, concepts related to teaching and learning has changed radically. The rapid growing
visualization techniques are one of the significant developments in this area. Computer and related
technologies widely used all over the world. As it can dramatically improve the learning
performance of students as well as the teaching productivity and effectiveness of teachers, these are
widely used in education.
RADIO AND TELEVISION IN COMMERCE EDUCATION
Radio and television have been used widely as educational tools since the 1920s and the
1950s, respectively. There are three general approaches to the use of radio and TV broadcasting in
education. Especially television and radio providing business news, that is very much benefit to
commerce students as well as teachers for updating their knowledge. While taking the case of
Higher Secondary students, they are new comers in the world of Commerce and businesses so these
types of updating of knowledge is boom to them and ease the work of teachers.
Educational programming consists of a broad range of programme type news programs,
documentary programs, quiz shows, educational cartoons, etc that afford non-formal educational
opportunities for all types of learners. In a sense, any radio or TV programming with informational
and educational value can be considered under this type. It is very easy to access the interview with
successive owners of business.
COMPUTER AND INTERNET IN COMMERCE EDUCATION
Internet and computer brings knowledge in our finger tip. Internet is a knowledge
repository system. Literacy work related to Commerce subjects is comparatively low, so
reference is very less to Commerce student. These crises lead Commerce student in to be only in
the light of textbooks. Use of internet and Computer made a solution for this.
Learning with the technology means focusing on how the technology can be the means to
learning ends across the curriculum. It includes:
 Presentation, demonstration, and the manipulation of data using productivity tools
 Use of curriculum-specific applications types such as educational games, drill and
practice, simulations, tutorials, virtual laboratories, visualizations and graphical
representations of abstract concepts, musical composition, and expert systems
 Use of information and resources on CD-ROM or online such as encyclopedia,
interactive maps and atlases, electronic journals and other references.
Technological literacy is required for learning with technologies to be possible, implying
a two-step process in which students learn about the technologies before they can actually use
them to learn. However, there have been attempts to integrate the two approaches.
Learning through computers and the Internet combines learning about them with learning
with them. It involves learning the technological skills “just-in-time” or when the learner needs
to learn them as he or she engages in a curriculum-related activity. For example, secondary
school students who must present a report on the impact on their community of an increase in the
price of oil for an Economics class may start doing research online, using spreadsheet and
database programs to help organize and analyze the data they have collected, as well using a
word processing application to prepare their written report.
Internet also facilitate the teleconferencing both audio and video like Edusat. Through
this facility an expert’s class can be watch and also can be interact with them.
Learners always look for flexibility in time, space, place, content selection and delivery of
instructions. It was quite impossible to satisfy such requirements in earlier times due to the non-
availability of proper tools. It is now feasible and possible to implement open & flexible learning
strategies using ICT as tools. Flexible access to content and learning resources via network across
conventional class rooms, homes and community centres is the defining characteristic of what has
come to be known also as distributed learning
While delivering the class lectures, any innovative teacher needs to draw diagrams, show
pictures, animate some objects to explain critical concepts, even play some video clipping of real
time operation. All these multimedia applications can assure very productive, interesting,
motivating, interactive and quality delivery of classroom instruction. Presentation software like
power point can be a good choice for teachers for performing such tasks.
The integration of ICT with teaching and learning has produced some of the significant
positive gains in learners’ knowledge, skills and attitudes by providing the following key
advantages:
 Explore and represent information dynamically and in many forms
 Become socially aware and more confident
 Increase motivation
 Communicate effectively about complex processes
 Develop better understanding and broader view of processes and systems
The teachers also need to make lists of the name of the students for monitoring and recording
their academic performance and to analyze and perform a statistical analysis to take some corrective
measure if any, in the lesson plan, delivery of instruction. Spreadsheets can be a good choice for
creating class lists, recording their performance and executing statistical analysis upon them.
MODE OR METHODOLOGY OF LEARNING THROUGH ICT
E-Learning - it is a learning program that makes use of an information network such as internet, a
LAN, Intranet or Wan based extranet whether wholly or in part, for course delivery, interaction and
facilitation. Web-based learning is a subset of e-learning and refers to learning using an internet
browser and Learning Management Systems such as the moodle, blackboard
PowerPoint Presentation - PowerPoint is one of the most powerful presentation-software
developed by the Microsoft Corporation. Presentation software’s are used to present and idea, topic,
message, lecture, information, etc on a subject, in front of an audience using computer system and
LCD projector.
CD-ROMs – CDs are developed to help the users interact easily. The content or topic to be taught
are programmed and stored in the CDs with multimedia features and effect. CD ROMs are the
storage media used to record, retrieve, read and replay the digitally formatted content of
programmes and packages.
CONCLUSION
Through this assignment I understood that ICT integrated instruction in teaching learning
process is a mile stone. It is a boom for education sector. ICT can meaningfully communicate all
types of information in graphic, text, audio and video. Mere learning ICT skills is not suffice, but
using ICT to improve the teaching and learning is the key for pedagogy-technology integration.
ICT brings so many facilities towards Commerce education system. These facilities simplify the
study and make interesting and easy.
