This document provides an overview of different narrative structures and theories in film and documentaries. It discusses different types of narratives such as those with single or multiple plot lines, chronological vs non-chronological order, and narratives aimed at convincing viewers they are watching real events versus those that acknowledge being documentaries. Various theorists and their perspectives on narrative are also outlined, including Tzvetan Todorov's theory of equilibrium, disruption, unifying force and resolution, Vladimir Propp's concept of narrative functions filled by stock characters, and Claude Levi-Strauss's idea of binary oppositions in narratives.
