This document discusses NetApp's unified storage architecture, which aims to address challenges in enterprise data centers by consolidating different storage functions onto a single platform. It describes how traditional storage requires separate systems for primary storage, SANs, NAS, and other functions. NetApp's unified storage architecture integrates multiprotocol support, single management, data protection, multiple storage tiers, quality of service, and legacy system front-ending onto one system. This allows consolidation of storage resources for better performance, manageability and cost savings compared to other vendors' so-called unified solutions.
