The Nevi scalers were designed by Hu-Friedy in collaboration with dental hygienists. They include the Nevi 1 for anterior teeth with a disk end and sickle end, and the Nevi 2 for posterior teeth with a curved sickle end. The Nevi 3 and 4 were later introduced for posterior teeth removal of tough deposits, featuring ultra-thin blades and contra-angled bends for improved access and ergonomics. The Nevi scalers are designed to be thin and strong for interproximal cleaning with an ergonomic grip to reduce hand fatigue.

- 3. Introduction The Nevi scalers were named after Neville Hammond, a master craftsman who has worked at Hu-Friedy for over 40 years. The design was a collaborative effort with the hygienists of Hu-Friedy and Neville Hammond. - 6. Nevi 1 Anterior - 2 Designs Nevi 1 Anterior (SCNEVI1) An elongated disk end for anterior lingual stain and calculus removal paired with a super thin, anterior curved sickle. Nevi 1/H5 Anterior (SNEVI1/H5) An elongated disk end for anterior lingual stain and calculus removal paired with a larger H5 sickle - a thin curved blade for interproximal and cervical anterior areas.

- 8. Nevi 1 Scaler The Nevi 1 anterior scaler has two distinct working ends. The small thin sickle end is paired with an oval disk-shaped end. The rigid terminal shank and the acute angulation of the disk end provide great access for anterior lingual surfaces.
- 9. Nevi 1 Scaler Here the disk end is being used to remove a heavy lingual calculus deposit. This instrument can be used in a pull stroke similar to a hoe, but because of the curved disk shape and cutting edge along the entire disk, it is more universal and can be used with horizontal, vertical and oblique strokes.

- 13. Sharpening The Bates Arkansas stone has a number of channels to effectively sharpen the Nevi 1 scaler. Sharpen the back of the blade by pulling the working end through the groove that best conforms to the shape of the blade.
