NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION PHYSICS Miss Nora Villanueva
Newton’s first law states… “ A body will continue in a state of rest or in a straight line of uniform motion unless acted on by an external force .” This means that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by a outside force.
An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at constant velocity, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
“ Law of inertia” Newton´s first law is known as the law of inertia. Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist changes in its velocity: whether in motion or motionless.
Example Once airborne, unless acted on by an unbalanced force (gravity and air – fluid friction), this ball would never stop! Unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, this golf ball would sit on the tee forever.
