1.1 General introduction about the sector

Marketing should not be looked upon in a vacuum or in isolation. It is an essence
taking a view of the whole business organization and its ultimate objective concern
for marketing must penetrate all areas of the enterprise. Market surveys in today’s
competitive world are a must for every organization.
The aim of this project was to comparatively study Transways Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
operators and others operators and try to reveal future prospects of Transways
Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
To carry out this research a sample study was pursued where the target audience a
region. Statistical and analytical tools ad techniques are applied to ascertain and
depict the present scenario.
Conclusion and there by recommendations has been arrive at by proper and justified
interpretation of the result derived from the above said analytical tools and
technique.

The success of the logistics industry depends on the promptness with which the
products can be delivered to a particular destination or to a client. Time and location
are two factors which can either make or mar the logistics industry. The logistics
industry is governed by technology, integration, globalization, legislation and
confederations.

Formerly, warehousing facilities and logistic facilities were situated in remote areas
like water port, beside rail tracks and those places in towns or cities which were not
treaded up on by many. However, these sites shifted to rural areas and other
localities.The logistics industry has experienced several changes over the years. These
changes can be attributed to the growth in the retail industry and the manufacturing
segments.

b. Growth and present status of the industry
Logistics is defined as the art and science of controlling and managing the flow of energy,
goods, products and services, people and information from the point of origin to the point
of destination. Tasks such as manufacturing and marketing cannot be performed without
an effective logistical support.
Logistics include the integration of several factors such as inventory, information,
transportation, material handling and warehousing. It has its operating responsibility in the
geographical repositioning of resources and processes such as raw materials and work-in-
process
With the advancement of technology, logistics automation has evolved to great heights. It
refers to the application of automated machinery and computer software for enhancing
the overall efficiency of operations under logistics. This may also be classified as
performance of operations in a distribution center or warehouse with the primary tasks
being performed by enterprise resource planning and supply chain management systems.

c. Future of the industry

Industry reports suggest that in the year 2002, revenues earned by the logistics
industry equaled USD$910 billion. As much as USD$571 billion was earned as
revenue from transportation, USD$ 298 billion was earned from warehousing,
USD$41 billion was from services related to logistics industry. Federal Reserve
recorded a growth of 4% in the gross domestic product or the GDP in the year 2004,
owing to revenues earned by the logistics industry. With the advent of latest and
sophisticated know how, the logistics industry has a bright future ahead.

2.1 Origin of the organization

Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd was established as a Freight Forwarder / Consolidator and
we have grown up step by step being our main aim all commercial operations needed in
actual international trade, efficiently cooperation with our customers and agents.

We also would like to take this opportunity to introduce our experiences. The
director has extensive experiences in Export / Import and also the staffs have been
exposed to the fields of freight forwarder and inland transport for more than
5 years. Our commitment to the company is significant, and through our
dedicated and competent teamwork, we are assured of a high quality international
freight forwarder.

The company was established 2 decades ago for logistic related activities. We
have diverse business interest, shipping and forwarding being the core activities.

2.2 Growth, Development & Present status of the organization

Growth
Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd, one of the world’s largest express delivery companies, has
appointed Mr. Lalit Jobanputra, as its Managing Director for India with effect from 1
August 2011.

In this role, Lalit is responsible for driving business growth and profitability for
Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd India’s operations. Based in Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd
India’s head office in Mumbai, Lalit will report to Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd..
Mr. Lalit Jobanputra said, “I am excited and looking forward to take on this new role. The
focus going forward is to deliver a robust growth strategy which will further consolidate
the business progress to date but deliver a framework to fast track growth.”

Lalit began his career with Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd in 1985 and has risen through the
ranks over his 27 year career with the company. Prior to his current appointment, Lalit
was the Managing Director of Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai. He was also the
Regional Operations Manager for Transways logistics Pvt. Ltd in Asia.

TRAINING

3.1 Student work profile (Role and responsibilities)

Role
I worked as a CSR in Transways Logistics Pvt Ltd. It was an outbound process. Our work
was to call the customers and convince the customers for the services which co. provides.
The services were that it provides air transport, sea shipping, trucking delivery. If the
customer got convinced then we have to go to their place and show the demo of
shipping/transporting/freight forwarding. We have to work for 6 days in a week.

Responsibilities

Day1-Day5: 5- 12-2011 – 10 -5-2011

Joined an organization and having training to know about the services of the Transways
Logistics Pvt Ltd. i.e. shipping /transporting.

Day6-Day10: 11- 12-2011 – 15-12-2011

Went on the floor to call the customers have a buddy up with the seniors who told us about
how to attend the customers in different situations, how to convince the customers.

Day11-Day15: 16- 12-2011 – 20-12-2011

Went on the floor and called to customers with 2 sales of the services of shipping.

DECEMBER

Joined Transways Logistics Pvt Ltd. On 5th December 2011 went for a week training where
I learnt about the whole profile of the company and the services. There were different kind
of services which the company provides to it’s customers. The services which Transways
logistics pvt ltd. provides are freight forwarding/shipping/transporting. Achieved 60% of the
target in the month of December.

JANUARY

In the month of January, achieved with 30% of target till 10th December.

3.2 Key learning from training

I have learnt so many things during my training period like my communication skills
become increased, my vocabulary become good, I got to know how I can sale a product, I
have learnt how to work in professional environment, become punctual in time, increase
in my positive attitude toward all things.

Key Challenges

The challenges which I faced were like that accurate and timely responding, keeping
deadlines, quick learning and be patient and diligent, work with high concentration, be
proactive to communicate with suppliers and plants, quick integration into the job,
process management and project management

Keylearnings

There were different things which I have learnt during my training were like understand
company saving strategies, basic logistics, operations in Asia region, self-starter,
proactive and ability to work with any company, awareness about the Marketing sector.

4.1 Statement of research problem

A research problem is a situation that needs a solution and for which there are possible
solutions. If a situation has no possible solutions then it makes little or no sense expending
resources researching it. Take this statement, “everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody
wants to die”. Dying looks like a problem that needs a solution yet there is no possible
solution to it. People must die. A research on how people can live forever makes little or no
sense.

Marketing Research

Managers need information in order to introduce products and services that create value in
the mind of the customer. But the perception of value is a subjective one, and what
customers value this year may be quite different from what they value next year. As such,
the attributes that create value cannot simply be deduced from common knowledge. Rather,
data must be collected and analyzed. The goal of marketing research is to provide the facts
and direction that managers need to make their more important marketing decisions.

Marketing Research vs. Market Research

These terms often are used interchangeably, but technically there is a difference.

Market research deals specifically with the gathering of information about a market's size
and trends. Marketing research covers a wider range of activities. While it may involve
market research, marketing research is a more general systematic process that can be
applied to a variety of marketing problems.

The main focus of marketing activities of service marketing companies is the identification
and satisfaction of clients’ needs and wants. These objectives can be attained by identifying
the likely marketing mix variables and strategies, including relevant environmental impacts

These classifications are made according to the objective of the research. In some cases the
research will fall into one of these categories, but in other cases different phases of the same

Exploratory research

Exploratory research Explanatory research focuses on why questions. For example, it is

rates in different countries. It is quite a different thing to develop explanations about why
the crime rate is as high as it is, why some types of crime are increasing or why the rate is

Descriptive research

Descriptive research is more rigid than exploratory research and seeks to describe users of a
product, determine the proportion of the population that uses a product, or predict future
demand for a product. As opposed to exploratory research, descriptive research should
define questions, people surveyed, and the method of analysis prior to beginning data
collection. In other words, the who, what, where, when, why, and how aspects of the
research should be defined. Such preparation allows one the opportunity to make any
required changes before the costly process of data collection has begun

Causal research

If the objective is to determine which variable might be causing a certain behavior, i.e.
whether there is a cause and effect relationship between variables, causal research must be
undertaken. In order to determine causality, it is important to hold the variable that is
assumed to cause the change in the other variable(s) constant and then measure the changes
in the other variable(s). This type of research is very complex and the researcher can never
be completely certain that there are not other factors influencing the causal relationship,
especially when dealing with people’s attitudes and motivations. There are often much
deeper psychological considerations that even the respondent may not be aware of.

Methodology

hypothesis represents the current view/explanation of an aspect of the world that the

Operationalization

Operationalization is to take a fuzzy concept, such as 'helping behavior', and try to measure
it by specific observations, e.g. how likely are people to help a stranger with problems.

Generalization

Generalization is to which extent the research and the conclusions of the research apply to
the real world. It is not always so that good research will reflect the real world, since we can
only measure a small portion of the population at a time

5.2 Summary of Findings

Ø The organization has clearly defined responsibilities to all its employees

Ø There is a negative effect found of the organizational policies. This might appear to
be contradictory to the general management practice. But this might be interpreted as
indicating as various new initiatives are being taken and new policies made, this is
taking its toll on the affected people or work areas. This may also mean that the staff is
not fully identifying with these changes.
Ø The employees are very much satisfied with the work environment provided to
the employees.
Ø The organization was capable of providing work-life balance to its emplo6.1

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

6.1 Summary of learning experience

During my internship I have learnt so many things how I can sale a product, how to work in
professional environment, how to interact with the customers, my communication skills
became increased, my vocabulary became increased. I have many things like I was in
outbound process in which we have to convince the customers. I got to learn how I can
convince a customer by telling all the benefits to the customers. I have learnt how to work in
the corporate world. It was just a friendly environment all my seniors, friend were helpful
we help each other in doing the work. I became punctual regarding the time which I have
spent there. On the floor I have learnt the how to attend the call i.e. opening and closing of
calls. Like in the opening of call we have to wish to the customer like good morning, good
afternoon or good evening, we have to call them mr/mrs or we could say sir/madam to the
customer. In the closing of calls we have to wish them like thanks for your precious time
have a nice day or thank you. These are all the things which I have learnt. It was such a
great experience which I have learnt during my training period

6.2 Conclusion and Recommendation

CONCLUSION

The investment objective of the Portfolio is to generate long term capital appreciation
from a portfolio of equity and equity linked instruments. The investment portfolio for
equity and equity linked instruments is primarily drawn from the banks in the BSE 30-
Index. As observed, the portfolio is undiversified as the Transways Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
included are from a single sectors viz. Banking. Thus the risk can not be diversified to a
large extent. Moreover it is also observed that the returns from the Portfolio are on the
tracks.

Initially for some period the Portfolio did not give as good returns as the Index i.e. BSE
30 but after sometime the returns generated by the fund outperformed the Index Returns.
After that a very heavy fall in the return of index as well as portfolio was seen.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

v Management can improve the satisfaction of workers by eng impartiality and
fairness in the disciplinary action proceedings
v It should also share information in more open way with staff and reach out to
the staff members by making the communication channels more effective.
v Encouragement by superior and superiors owning up the development of
subordinates.
v The management should focus on imparting training to develop leadership
skills among the employees.
v The management should benchmark the pay and benefits with the competitive
industries.
v If Transways Logistics Pvt. Ltd. wants to make an immediate impact on the
staff satisfaction, it has to ensure:
• Retaining talented people

• Any festival should witness involvement of maximum employees
across strata.
• Communication by the management needs to reach out to the staff
at all levels.
