SL
What is the section B?
• A piece of writing of 150-250 words where a
student has to express ideas about a provided
statement in a well organized way.
Critical Argumentative Text
Where is the challenge?
The statement
Some statements can be quite general.
The type of text
• Students don’t know how to write a
argumentative text.
• They usually write a comment or a personal
opinion.
Word count
• The amount of words does not permit a good
development of ideas.
• The necessary amount of words to write a good
argumentative text may be different, depending
on the language.
Maintaining the concentration
• Section B goes after section A, where students
usually give the maximum and they could loose
their concentration.
Timing
How to prepare students for section B in
order for them to succeed?
• Everything is in the preparation and in the
organization.
A proposal for every challenge
Decide how much time will be dedicated to this
section.
Read the steatment
Try to rephrase it.
Choose a line, focus on something specific.
