Normandy architecture originated in Normandy and the Loire Valley of France in the early 20th century. It is characterized by large stone, brick, and timber homes that are usually 2-3 stories tall with central round towers atop cone-shaped roofs. Other common features include steep roofs with high ridgelines and artistic placement of timber elements. Normandy architecture employs vertical lines, consistent use of materials, and regular patterns to convey stability and unity in residential home designs. While originally from France, the style has also been used recently for new homes constructed in Dallas, Texas.
