Notion magazine double page spread analysis

The layout of this magazine reinforces the target audience and the genre as for the text is very small in comparison to the image next to it which is possibly suggesting that the writing is almost insignificant; we rather see her than hear about her. The main focus of this double page spread is Ariana Grande as she takes up a large amount of the space. The image is very bold with her standing tall, making an eye line match, with a brightred cartoon style dress on that has clearly been photo- shopped in. The image is very girly and playful therefore appealing to a young, female primary audience. However, there will also be a secondary audience of males as for this image will also draw their attention because sheis young and beautiful. The article is about an interview with the artist herself, this could make the audience feel as though they are getting to know her personally and entice them into wanting to reads more. The formality of the text suggests that the magazine is aimed towards an older and higher classed audience. This also suggests that the magazine itself could possibly costa bit morethan any other. The large amounts of white space used throughoutthis magazine suggests thatthey want to keep the house style very clean and simple, only placing images and texts where needed and not making the page too crowded.

The lack of a heading or title suggests that the magazine is continuing to break the codes and conventions making it unique and different (like the pop music genre). However, the lead is still there in a bold, underlined font drawing the reader’s attention and enticing them to continue onto reading the actual article, which is what it is meant to do. The overall house style of this page is quite classic and sophisticated hinting at the target audiences’ class; ABC1. This is created by the simple colour scheme and the professionallooking structure of the body copy and page borders. For this double page there is only one image used which clearly represents the pop music genre. The model is wearing a white dress which has clearly been drawn on (onceagain showing the playfulness and creativity within the magazine) contrasting with the dark background drawing all the focus onto her. She is also not making an eye line match making her dress the main focus of the image. Furthermore, the fact that the image is taking up a full page shows the significance of the person and entices the audience to read the article to find out what has made her such an important partof this magazine. The colour scheme consists of black, white and blue. The main connotations of these three colours are formality, perfection and confidence which coincides with the style of the magazine and the artist.
