INTRODUCTION
A concept map is a diagram that depicts suggested relationship
between concepts. It is a graphical tool that designers, engineers
and others used to organize and structure knowledge.a concept
map typically represents ideas and informations as boxes or
circles which it connects with labeled arrows in a downward
branching hierarchical structures. The relationship between
concepts can be articulated in linking phrases such as causes
requires or contributes.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
The technique for visualizing relationship among different
concepts is called concept mapping.concept map define the
ontology of computer system for example with the object
modeling or unified modeling language formatism. Note taking
and summarizing gleaning key concepts their relationships and
hierarchy from documents and sources materials new knowledge
creation ; eg. Transforming tacit knowledge in to an organizational
resource, mapping team knowledge institutional knowledge
preservation eg;eliciting and mapping expert knowledge of
employees prior to retirement. Collaborative knowledge modeling
and the transfer of expert knowledge facilitating the creation of
sharted vvision and shared understanding with in a team or
organization instructional design.
DIFFERENCES FROM OTHER VISUALIZATION
TOPICMAPS
Concept maps are almost similar to topic maps in that both allow to
connect concepts or topic via graphs. Among various schema and techniques for
visualizing ideas processes and organizations conceptmaps are developed by
Joseph Novak.
MIND MAPS
Amind map reflects whatyou think about a single topic which can
focus group brain storming
BIOLOGY CONCEPT MAP
Life is an energy chase which leaves a wastetrace. It should
be a persuasivepresentation that teaches an uninformed viewer about living
systems through the units have been studied and the major concepts are
associated with each other.
CONCEPT MAP IN EDUCATION
When created correctly concept map is a powerfulway for
students to reach high level of cognitive performance. It is not justa learning tool
but an ideal evaluation tool for educators measuring the growth and assessing
student learning.
As studentcreate concept map they reiterate ideas
using their own words and help identify incorrect ideas, concepts .Educators are
able to see what students do not understand ,providing an accurateway to
evaluate areas in which students do not go yet grasp concepts fully.
CONCLUSION
Itis used as a teaching learning technique concept mapping
visually illustrates the relationship between concepts and ideas often represented
in circles ,boxes ,concepts are linked by words and phrases thatexplain the
connection between the ideas , helping students organize and structuretheir
thoughts to further understand information and discover new relationships.
