WELCOME
Susquenita High School Expectations  Teaching without disruption   Learning without disruption   Everyone to be treated with dignity and respect   Everyone will work to their full potential   An attitude of pride in self, school, and community
Student  Handbook Provides a guideline to the school’s rules, regulations and policies The school board policy is the official wording on all matters.
Dignity and Respect Respect the rights of: Other students Teachers  All other staff While in school, the teacher assumes the role of the parent (loco parentis) Show dignity and respect for self.
ATTENDANCE Students are expected to be in school every day Exceptions: Legitimate illness supported by a parent or physician note  Pre-approved educational trips and college visits Tardy or early dismissal for  legitimate medical or legal appointments A tardy is unexcused unless you produce a doctor’s note
Attendance (continued) Do not assume the last day of school on the calendar is definite.  This date could change.  Trips taken as this time WILL NOT BE excused.  Missed final exams will receive a 0% grade.
3 Day Rule Absences will be considered  UNEXCUSED  if a note is not presented within 3 days to the office. This is a student responsibility!
UNEXCUSED  ABSENCES If your absence is unlawful or unexcused you do NOT have the right to make up or turn in work. You will not get credit for projects due. An unexcused tardy is an unlawful absence! After  3 days  without an excuse, the absence will remain unexcused even with a Doctor’s Note.
Tardy  to  School Report directly to the office to sign in.  You will need a pass to go to class. Sanctions (Depending on record) Detention – after 3 rd  tardy ISS Loss of Driving Privilege Parental Contact
Leaving the School Not permitted to leave school, during school hours, without the permission of the principal’s office Loss of driving privileges for driver and all riders. 1 st  offense – 30 day loss of privileges
Student’s  Responsibilities Be aware of rules and regulations and conduct yourself in accordance with them Volunteer information relating to the health, safety and welfare of the school, community and protection of school property
Attend school daily, except when excused Make all arrangements for making up work when excused Be on time for all classes and activities Express your ideas and opinions in a respectful manner so as not to offend or slander other persons
Conduct at Events Home  and  Away Students must abide by all school rules and regulations while in attendance at: Athletic events or competitions  Athletic practices Co-curricular and extra curricular activities Field Trips You represent Susquenita High School at all times!
Dress Code Sleeveless clothing is not permitted. Transparent, low cut (v-neck or scoop  neck) and bare midriff or rear  torso clothing is prohibited No undergarments are to be exposed. No torn/ripped clothing
Dress Code (continued) Skirts, shorts and dresses must be no shorter than mid thigh (tip of finger when arm extended down along leg) Clothing must be proper fitting and not impede movement No excessive heels No low rise pants Clothing may no be too tight No outerwear (exterior coats) without express permission of the office.
Dress Code (continued) Chains and other excessive jewelry may not be worn  Items that may damage furniture or injure others Items that may injure anyone Decision of the school administration is final No head coverings. (Hats, bandanas, sweatbands, dew rags and hoods are not to be worn indoors.) Items may be confiscated by any staff member. No pajamas or sleepwear.
Dress Code (continued) No clothing displaying slogans or logos that depict or suggest the use of Tobacco, alcohol, drugs Obscene language or sexual innuendos Lewd or illegal behavior Derogatory statement to any person, or group Decision of the school administration is final.
Footwear Shoes are to be worn at all times on school grounds and in the building. Flip flops must be  leather  as per board policy.
PDA’s Public Display of Affection Public displays of affection are  not  appropriate for the school setting. Students need to exhibit dignity and respect for themselves and other students. Public kissing will result in a minimum of one PM detention being issued.
Food and Drink Students are not to have food and drink in hallways, classrooms or other areas of the school outside the cafeteria ! EXCEPTION:  Water in clear containers  with no additives.
Acceptable Use Policy Students may use computers only in accordance with the acceptable use policy. Students are not permitted to use school equipment to: Access prohibited web sites Access personal e-mail accounts Utilize IM (instant messaging) Duplicate or copy any materials that are copyrighted or not permitted under our policy.
Personal  Possessions Prohibited from the time you enter the school until dismissal time Radios/I-PODS/MP 3& CD Players Cellular/Digital Phones Pagers Lap Tops (unless required for a class) Discouraged Valuables and large sums of money Toys, games, gag items Blankets, pillows, etc.
Personal  Possessions Policy requires electronics to be in your locker during the school day.  Consequences: Item confiscated until a  parent  picks it up Repeat offenses subject to detention/suspension The school assumes  NO LIABILITY
SLEEPING Head Down +  Eyes Closed =========== Sleeping You are presumed to be sleeping if:
Office Telephone NO student use of Office Telephone except for emergency situations. Do not ask the secretaries!
BUS  CONDUCT Follow all driver requests the first time given! Violations may result in: Detention In School Suspension Bus Suspension
1 st  Offense Minimum 3 days suspension Possible police investigation Failure to stop when directed by staff or when serious injury occurs  10 day suspension  informal hearing FIGHTING
FIGHTING If a staff member is intentionally or unintentionally struck  10 day suspension  Possible expulsion Police Report will be filed Repeat Offense or Serious Injury 10 day suspension Board hearing Police intervention Possible expulsion
Weapons and Dangerous Instruments - PROHIBITED Any  object that can be considered a weapon Knife, razor, ice pick Explosive, ammunition Gun (BB, pellet, other) Bow & arrows
Controlled Substances Drugs, look alike drugs and drug paraphernalia are prohibited. Lawful medications must be taken to nurse in the original container with the prescription and authorization from parent. Controlled substances  Immediate Suspension Informal or Formal Hearing Referral to police
Tobacco Products    Cigarettes, cigars and smokeless tobacco are prohibited School grounds  and within 1,000 feet of school grounds Buses  Personal Vehicles on school property

Tobacco Products   Possession and Use prohibited under PA Crimes Code 1 st  Offense – 1 day of ISS and possible fine 2 nd  Offense – 2 days ISS and possible fine 3 rd  & subsequent – administrative review or hearing All fines are filed with the District Magisterial Court
DRUG & ALCOHOL Convictions Federal law states students with drug or alcohol convictions are  ineligible  for federal grants, loans or scholarship. Whether offense occurred on or off school property
Thefts Violation of School Policy Violation of State Law Will be prosecuted
HAZING School Board Policy 245  Prohibits  any activity  that intentionally or recklessly endangers the mental or physical health or safety of another student for purposes of initiation, membership or affiliation with any organization.
Student  Driving Privilege
Student Drivers Only students with valid permits may park anywhere on the Susquenita School District Campus.  Vehicles are subject to search by the school administration. Parking on campus is a  privilege  which may be suspended or revoked for cause. Tardies to school Driving violations Leaving Campus without permission Drivers may be assessed fines for violations in addition to disciplinary action.
PARKING LOT Upon arrival -park in assigned space -turn off lights and ignition -take keys -take all books and materials -lock the vehicle No one will be permitted to leave school to return to your vehicle.
Detention Detention will be held from  2:50 - 5:15  this year due to a change in bus transportation. Detention is held every Tuesday and Thursday in Room 405 (Mrs. Garver.) If you cut a detention or arrive late, further detentions will be added.  Additionally, ISS or OSS may be issued.
Report when assigned. Have all assignments completed. Follow all rules. In School Suspension
