- 3. In order to protect the hearing health of your employees, you are required by OSHA (1970) to comply with current standards of the most recent hearing conservation program.
- 4. Noise levels should be monitored regularly to identify those employees who are being exposed to 85 decibels (dB; about the loudness of a motor boat running) or greater over a typical 8 hour work day or a time-weighted average of 8 hours.
- 5. In order to conserve employee hearing, those employees who are identified as being regularly exposed to 85 dB or greater must then be repeatedly monitored for changes in hearing sensitivity.
- 6. If changes are made in the work environment that could affect noise levels, new measurements must be made.
- 7. Any additional employees exposed to 85 dB or greater must be added to the hearing conservation monitoring schedule. Adequate hearing protection must be provided to employees in these high noise areas.
