- 3. 1. Introduction As gender issues move forward in national and global agendas, new demands are created for statistics. Policy makers, researchers and advocates request additional data and argue, more generally, that the gender perspective should be a basic assumption guiding which data to collect and to analyze. Gender statistics are the basis for analysis to assess differences in the situations of women and men and how their conditions are changing or not

Introduction…(Cont’d) • Gender Statistics is related to all fields of statistics in general and agricultural statistics in particular and it is a tool to facilitate the change needed to address gender issues. • Identifying the information required to inform and understand the problems and goals connected with gender issues is essential to the production of gender statistics.

Introduction …(cont’d) Gender Statistics is expected to produce and disseminate statistics that reflect the realities of the lives of women and men and policy issues relating to gender equality. Therefore, a policy-oriented approach rather than the simple disaggregation of data by sex is at the core of gender statistics.
- 6. 1. Introduction …(cont’d) Women and men have different roles in society: different access to and control over resources and different skills and interests. These differences are to be reflected in official statistics Development of analyses and presentation of data that can reach policy makers and the largest audience possible.
- 7. 1. Introduction …(cont’d) It is important to collect data at individual men and women levels as well as the level of the household unit, and to provide tabulations and analysis, which show both household and individual patterns.

The Existing CSAAgSS data and gender disaggregation • CSA Has been collecting AgSS data for Decades .primarily to indicate area, production forecast, etc Agriculture, Natural Resource and Environment Statistics Directorate of CSA Conducting Various Surveys (AgSS + others such as FTF, PSNP, AGP) • Gender Mainstreaming Directorate of CSA Among other activities, mainstreaming gender indicators in the various surveys Example, in AgSS, gender section is included the report is under process Provide various trainings to the staff about improving awareness of the staff about gender Mainstreaming and data Coordinate production of gender specific surveys such as: Gender Time Use survey 2013 Gender Disaggregated Data Mining and Report 2015 Gender asset Gap to be studied
- 9. 3. The gaps In the traditionally used AgSS statistics, women’s or men’s activities and preferences are not fully covered. Problem occurs when the basic unit of analysis and presentation is the household, which assumes that within the household, there is an equitable pooling of resources, work participation and decision making.
- 10. 4 . The Way forward Further Disaggregation of official statistics data up to the level possible Additional Surveys that can address the gaps Needs further resources, but through creating user producer dialogues and partnership, it is possible to have better official and disaggregated data
