Not many people get the opportunity to travel, let alone travel outside of the country. I was given the
chance to travel to Italy for school and I made sure to take advantage of it. I can confidently say that
my experience abroad changed me as a person. My academic, personal, and professional outlooks
are more clearer than they've ever been. I'm first going to give a brief summary of my trip and my
experiences, and then I'll go over what I was able to take out of my trip personally and academically.
My study abroad consisted of a group of ten other students that all shared the same major as me,
Applied Engineering and Technology. This was a faculty led program so we also had one of our
professors and his wife travel with us. Coming into the trip, I only happened to only know one other

Chicago, which happened to be my first time ever being there. I'm originally from southern Illinois,
near St. Louis, and somehow I've never managed to make it up to Chicago, even though the majority
of my friends from school are from there. It was a lovely experience driving through downtown and
being able to fly out of one of the biggest airports in the country. My trip had already brought
unfamiliar territory and I hadn't even left the state yet.After a total of fourteen hours of flying and a
layover in Frankfurt, Germany, we finally landed to our destination of Florence, Italy. The flight
seemed like forever, especially since I got assigned a middle seat on the plane, which was rather
inconvenient. As soon as we landed in the city I was instantly attracted to everything about it. The
buildings, the streets, the people, the smell of the food, it was all amazing to me. My apartment was
sizable and pleasant. I shared with four other students who I became rather close with by the end of
