A NET
Matt 13
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the
sea, and gatheredof every kind:
48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered
the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and
sever the wicked from among the just,
50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailingand
gnashingof teeth.
A man, a grain, leaven, a woman, and a merchantman, and the goodly pearl are
and a net picturing the Kingdom of Heaven.
“Good and bad fish” are defined in verse49 as “the wicked” and “the just.” (Eccl.
9:12; Mark 1:17)
Lev 11:9-12 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters:
whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the
rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers,
of all that move in the waters, and of any livingthing which is in the
waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of
their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an
abomination unto you.
Eccl 9:12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are
taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so
are the sons of men snaredin an evil time, when it falleth suddenly
upon them.
Mark 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will
make you to become fishers of men.
“They drew to shore” implies fishermen, yet the fishermen are defined as
“angels” in verse49.
Matt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given
in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
“The end of the world”
Hell
Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time
of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the
tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat
into my barn.
Matt 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be
wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Heb 9:26 For then must he often have sufferedsince the foundation
of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he
appearedto put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Individuals at the second Advent:
Matt 24
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be
darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall
from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then
shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man
coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Matt 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples
came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be?
and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the
world?
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they
shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of
heaven to the other.
Matt 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is
the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
Matt 13:48-49 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and
sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad
away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth,
and sever the wicked from among the just,
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man
be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eatingand
drinking, marryingand giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered
into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall
also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other
left.
41 Two women shall be grindingat the mill; the one shall be taken, and
the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time
of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares,
and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into
my barn.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what
watch the thief wouldcome, he would have watched, and would not have
sufferedhis house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son
of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler
over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so
doing.
Nations at the second Advent:
Matt 25
31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels
with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate
them one from another, as a shepherddivideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed
of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of
the world:
2Sam 7:10-11 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people
Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their
own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness
afflictthem any more, as beforetime,
11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my
people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies.
Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
2Sam 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish
the throne of his kingdom for ever.
2Sam 7:16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be establishedfor
ever before thee: thy throne shall be establishedfor ever.
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave
me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothedme: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison,
and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed
thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, VerilyI say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye
cursed, into everlastingfire, preparedfor the devil and his angels:
Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time
of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares,
and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into
my barn.
Matt 13:48-49 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and
sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth,
and sever the wicked from among the just,
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye
gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not:
sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not
minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, VerilyI say unto you, Inasmuch as ye
did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the
righteous into life eternal.
O.T. examples
Josh 6:22-24 22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out
the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman,
and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab,
and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and
they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver,
and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the
treasuryof the house of the LORD.
1Kgs 2:26 And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to
Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not
at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD
before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all
wherein my father was afflicted.
