What makes a
                                          balanced diet?

In order to keep as healthy as possible it is a good idea to eat sensibly and to include
lots of different types of food.
 The NHS website (2010) states
“A healthy diet is one that is balanced. This means eating the right amount of food for how active you are, and
eating a range of food from the five main food groups. These are:
carbohydrates, which contain lots of energy and nutrients and are found in starchy foods, such as bread, pasta
and potatoes , protein, which helps the body to grow and repair itself (is found in meat, fish, beans and eggs)
fruit and vegetables , milk and dairy foods and foods that are high in fat and sugar”

Hunter(2001) supports this claim
“the best diet contains food from five groups – Carbohydrates, Protein, Fats, Dairy, Vegetables &
    High calorie foods”

Hunter, F. (2001) Food for Your Body: How to Look and Feel Your Best. London: Reader's Digest
Reading this information, I now realise how important it is to try and avoid
eating too much fast food and sweets as this kind of diet might make me feel
unwell and cause me problems when I am older.

  • 10. What makes a  balanced diet? In order to keep as healthy as possible it is a good idea to eat sensibly and to include  lots of different types of food. The NHS website (2010) states “A healthy diet is one that is balanced. This means eating the right amount of food for how active you are, and  eating a range of food from the five main food groups. These are: carbohydrates, which contain lots of energy and nutrients and are found in starchy foods, such as bread, pasta  and potatoes , protein, which helps the body to grow and repair itself (is found in meat, fish, beans and eggs)  fruit and vegetables , milk and dairy foods and foods that are high in fat and sugar” NHS (2010) What is a healthy balanced diet ? Available at:  http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1127.aspx?categoryid=51&subcategoryid=16 6 [Accessed 15/9/11] Hunter(2001) supports this claim  “the best diet contains food from five groups – Carbohydrates, Protein, Fats, Dairy, Vegetables &  High calorie foods” Hunter, F. (2001) Food for Your Body: How to Look and Feel Your Best. London: Reader's Digest Reading this information, I now realise how important it is to try and avoid  eating too much fast food and sweets as this kind of diet might make me feel  unwell and cause me problems when I am older.
