- 7. Not only are we afraid to fail, we think it possible not to fail
- 8. PERSONAL FAILURE 15 I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. 17 But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. --Romans 7

- 10. PERSONAL FORGIVENESS There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8.1

- 15. The Lord’s Prayer Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.

INTERPERSONAL FAILURE & FORGIVENESS 23 So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. --Matthew 5
- 20. Can you praise God if you’re fighting with a friend? What does it feel like? Do you think friendships have anything to do with God?
- 21. SOCIAL FAILURE & FORGIVENESS When disaster happens people focus on their own survival and often neglect others.
- 22. 9“The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God, to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? … 11 Restore to them, this very day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the interest on money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.” --Nehemiah 5
- 23. FORGIVENESS the only action that acts anew God’s work and human work
- 24. FORGIVENESS a practice of giving, in which you give yourself to a new beginning
- 25. How can you give yourself? 1) Write a note to someone: •acknowledge failure in your relationship •express your commitment to begin again 2) Commit a tough relationship to prayer •picture the person’s face during The Lord’s Prayer
