EXPRESSING CONDITIONS
If I had more time, I would
go to the tea party with
you, Alice.
EXPRESSING CONDITIONS
The rabbit is not going to the tea party because he
doesn’t have the time. Having enough time is the
condition necessary for him to go to the tea party.
The rabbit doesn’t think he will get the time, but if he
got the time, then he would go.
EXPRESSING CONDITIONS
a. The first part begins with if, and the verb is in the past.
We can divide the sentence into two parts.
b. In the second uses would.
If I had more time, I would go...

EXPRESSING CONDITIONS
The if-part of the sentence doesn’t have to
come first. It may come after the would
part. Let’s look at these two sentences.
If we were rich, we would buy a beautiful
house in Miami.
We would buy a house in Miami if we
were rich.
EXPRESSING CONDITIONS
If Mary were millionare, she would buy a pink Ferrari.
Mary would buy a pink Ferrari if she were millionare.
