Jonas from The Giver faces adversity by planning to run away to solve his problems. He waits for the Giver to give him more powers to help with his journey. Victor from The Amigo Brothers catches the eye of a girl Teresa at his new school but lies that he knows French. He eventually talks to Teresa and his year goes well. Felix and his best friend in the story are both good fighters but afraid fighting would ruin their friendship, but they decide to fight while promising their friendship will remain no matter the winner.

- 7. Felix is afraid to fight his best friend. They are both good fighters but they just do not want to fight each other. They were afraid that it would ruin there friendship.
- 8. The two friends decided to fight and promised to each other that no matter who wins. They will always be friends.
