Personal Statement
I started my career in an unorthodox way: delivering science and technology news directly to live
audiences from a stage. I was an early member of the experimental Current Science &
Technology Center at Boston's Museum of Science, an effort to bring cutting edge science to adult
members of the public through extended interactions with science journalists in an informal
education setting.
I was fortunate enough to work alongside a graduate of the Columbia University School of
Journalism, a former producer for NOVA, the current executive director of the National
Association of Science Writers, and other highly skilled science communicators. I considered these

I planned the episodes, booked guests, and served as host, producer, and editor of the show,
interviewing researchers, explorers, and inventors from a wide variety of disciplines. A year after
launching the show, it was awarded the American Association of Museum's 2007 Gold Muse
Award, the top honor granted for teaching and outreach by one of the largest museum associations in
the world. In all, I conducted roughly 150 interviews for podcasts or video during my time at the
museum, and dozens more during live presentations.
While I was at the Museum of Science, I started Boston Behind the Scenes, my own independent
podcast profiling ordinary and extraordinary people around the Boston area. This is a human–
interest interview show that introduces the audience to local people, from street vendors to
newspaper editors. Through work on that podcast, I became involved in an iPod–based documentary
tour project. This allowed me the financial freedom to begin working full–time as a freelance new
media journalist and producer.
The two most prominent positions I have assumed recently are as host, producer, and editor of new
media programs for the education division of Nature and for the Journal of the National

The smartphone market is one of today's most rapid growing industries. A smartphone is a
technologically advanced communication device that not only performs the actions of a basic
mobile phone, but it also allows the consumer to personalize the device with installable applications
from an Internet based store for maximum functionality (Smartphone, 2015). A recent annual report
from Mary Meeker on Internet trends reported that 87 % of young adults, those between the ages of
18 and 34, who own smartphones are never separated from them. Her report also showed that 4 out
of 5 young adults say that they reach for their smartphones as soon as they awaken each day
(Hackett, 2015). The smartphone industry is made up of a number of firms located around the world
that design, manufacture, and sell smartphones in various markets. The major industry competitors

How Technology Has Impacted Education
Introduction
Education is defined as 'the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing
the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually
for mature life.' A good education leads to knowledge, career progression, enlightenment and helps a
nation progress, as John F. Kennedy said; "Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our
progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." The introduction of
technology in education has impacted education both for good and bad. According to the Oxford
dictionary, Technology is; 'machinery and devices that are developed from scientific knowledge to
increase or better, everyday functions.' Technology used in education, is part of a large debate over
whether it is improving educational outcomes in students. Some say technology is revolutionizing
education for the better, and others say it is a trend that offer/s no specific improvements to
education. Although technology can never replace a good quality teacher, the advantages and
benefits of technology, positively supplements a bridge between education and the technological
world, hence offers students the marketable job skills they need in order to satisfy in the evolving
technological world.

The use of technology and social media makes our life a lot easier. Social media and technology
play a huge role in our everyday life and friendship. In today's world, people, mostly teenagers use
social media and technology every day to communicate and interact with others. Technology gives
us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time.
According to "Daily News" 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn't go a single day
without their mobile device in their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to
communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my life
without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see what
they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technology for that. A couple
decades ago people didn't have good communication devices therefore it was much harder for them
to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us to use,

Section Two: Communications Plan
Introduction
No matter where one lives or what job is held, one thing remains necessary for success to occur,
communication. Effective communication enables bosses to communicate with employees, family
and friends to talk with one another, and teachers to communicate with students and parents. It is
this communication that lays the ground work for success in any situation. Today, many people rely
on various forms of technology to communicate with one another. The advancements in technology
make sending out important reminders, cute pictures, or a simple life update quick and efficient. It is
no different in the world of education. Teachers must learn how to use effective technology
communication tools such as class websites, social media, e–mail, and text alerts to communicate
quickly and effectively with both parents and students while preserving the safety and security of

Innovation No More
It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not invent
new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is very limited
to what we have already created.
Google's definition of innovating, "make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new
methods, ideas, or products," suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this
definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a
way never done before. It's not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very
limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future.
So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it's just that innovation has become merely
focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people
innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will
mostly focus on technology which can help to make money.
The novel "Oryx and Crake" which is based on the future shows somewhat of the real future and
what it will be like. In this science fiction novel, we are treated to a very limited thinking world in
which the main concern is technology and money. There are some technological advances evident in
this novel but not ones which are comprehensive or mind boggling. For example, there is a lot of

His brilliance shows in today's era since now, technology predominates ordinary functions and

How Technology Has Changed Our Lives
In our ever–evolving world, we have seen the emergence of technology in all aspects of our lives.
People use technology as a form of entertainment, as a tool to help them communicate with other
people, to help them monitor their health and as a tool to help them enhance their work. When out in
public, it is common to see numerous people using some form of technologic device. While at the
mall, it is common to see people talking on their phones, texting people or posting on their social
network sites. At a doctor's offices you will likely see people playing on their tablets or using their

Brief Narrative
I continued my Internship at Orchestra Technology with the intent to further enhance my knowledge
in the field of data sciences. The projects that were assigned to me over the summer were
completely independent of supervision. These projects helped me gain further insights in the

Meier and Musick suggest that the blame does not fall on millennials, but the parents. Parents are
held accountable for several reasons, the first is that parents are the ones who purchase the gadgets
and give permission for them to be used. Parents have the power in this relationship that is why
families must be educated on the pitfalls of technology.
I agree with Annie Murphy Paul, a writer for the magazine, Good House Keeping point that parents
are responsible for children's usage of technology. In Paul's article she cited a study that was
reported by the American Journal of Epidemiology which reported that "while half of parents
surveyed in a 2010 study said they always or often set limits on screen time, 18 percent of their kids
really disagreed" (Paul). This highlights a key discrepancy between parents and children. In the eyes
of children parents do not restrict children enough. This is exactly what Alessondra Villegas, a
researcher at Fordham University, states in her journal. She claims that parents must be able to
develop clear rules and that parents must also be firm with the boundaries that are set forth (Villegas
2–3). In Villegas's research she found that parents use technology to watch their children. Villegas
concluded that, "on average, mothers claim to use the television as a babysitter for at least one hour

Lucent Technologies Supply Chain Of Asia
Lucent Technologies supply chain in Asia had many issues back in1996 and once it became
independent from AT&T; some of which were long lead times, high cost, high inventories, poor
technical support for local Asian operations and its customers. This was a consequence of the
historical supply of Asia from the United States. The establishment of local Asian facilities was only
as an entry mean to the Asian market. Even though the facilities provided some high–level assembly
and test, the supply chain was organized and centered on the U.S. leading to the problems mentioned
earlier. A change was required and thus a supply chain redesign was completed in 1996, providing
more Asian content. The change had a successful payback; however, developing changes in the
marketplace, in suppliers, and in the manufacturing environment suggested that the supply chain
was no longer optimal. At the start, forming the four joint ventures in Asia (Taiwan, Indonesia,
China, and India) was only an entry vehicle for Lucent into the Asian market and not part of a
manufacturing strategy. Nevertheless, Lucent had its share in the Asian market, was able to manage
its business there successfully, and did not have much of challenges. They were the market leader in
the U.S. for switching systems, and their flagship product– the 5ESS® Switch– was the most

We may be too dependent on technology, but our dependence does not necessarily impact us in
