Public Petroleum Data Model The long term vision is a model that embraces the major upstream E&P business subjects; encompassing exploration, development, production, gathering and marketing, plus related management and administration functions.
Technical Objectives Data Repository PPDM data models are widely used in the E&P industry internationally. Spatially enabling the PPDM data model allows users to access their data through a map based Geographic Information System, providing visual displays of vast amounts of data to end-users; spatially enabled data supports activities in ways never before conceived. A simplified, rolled up data model (PPDM Lite) contains summaries of the rich data available in PPDM 3.7.1 and can even incorporate summaries of other important data types. Data replication management procedures ensure that the data in PPDM Lite is automatically synchronized with PPDM 3.7.
Technical Objectives Data Exchange Standard data exchange standards, based on XML and GML The Association is developing, in conjunction with key industry players, data exchange schemas and supporting technology that will enable users to load or unload data into the schemas and transport an XML (Extensible Markup Language) file across the Internet.
Technical Objectives Data Content Developing standardized content definitions for data is the second key objective of the Association. Doing this properly means that a variety of professional organizations such as ARMA, AAPL, CAPL, SEG and others must be involved in the process; the PPDM Association is developing these relationships and preparing reference value sets.
Implementation Many members choose to implement only portions of the model, particularly when their business is limited to a subset of the functionality in the PPDM data model.
Member Support Model Documentation Sample Data Reference Guides Change Management Process Work Groups Education and Technical Support
DDL The mandate of the PPDM Association is to develop products based on standardized, open and platform independent technology. SQL*92, a standardized ANSII language for relational database design, is presently the underlying technology for model deliverables. The PPDM Association provides Data Definition Language (DDL) that supports entry level SQL*92 standards.
PODS PODS and APDM are working together to develop an ESRI Geodatabase spatial implementation that will be called the PODS ESRI Geodatabase.
WHY PODS Many Pipeline operators begin with the Pipeline Integrity Management requirements and the need to improve operations and data management. Integrity Management is one of the leading businesss drivers for using PODS. PODS is widely accepted in the pipeline industry and has a proven track record with many successful implementations. The PODS model has a large number of service and software providers that understand and support the model. This helps avoid custom software development and avoids "reinventing the wheel." PODS may be implemented with the ESRI Geodatabase and other GIS platforms, providing a high degree of integration with GIS desktop and web-based applications. The PODS model is a vendor-neutral data model and is not proprietary to a vendor. The PODS I.P. is owned by the PODS Association, Inc. The PODS data model supports most of the data needs of pipeline operators for pipeline integrity management. This includes Physical pipe and fittings, Inline Inspections, Regulatory, Physical Inspections, Cathodic Protection and many others.
APDM The APDM is a geodatabase model that was developed for implementing transmission (gas and liquid) pipelines. The intent of the model was never to create a database standard, but rather to create a database template, from which custom models could be created and evolved.
