PGP Keys WHAT ? PGP keys is the feature of PGP Desktop which can be used to maintain your keypair(s) and public  keys of other PGP desktop users. How to access ?
PGP Keys Types of Keys All Keys . Shows all PGP keys on your keyrings. My Private Keys . Shows only the private keys on your keyrings. Search for Keys . Lets you search for keys on your keyrings based on criteria you specify. Smart Card Keys . If you have a smart card on your system, you also have this option.
PGP Keys Creating a Keypair Select  File > New PGP Key  or press Ctrl+N. The first screen of the PGP Key Generation Assistant is displayed. .

Securing PGP Keys Store the key on your own computer/flash disk/hard drive. Give different name to your private keys and store them on other location then default (secring.skr,pubring.pkr) Backup keys automatically
Backing up Your Private Key Click on My Private Keys Select the icon representing your keypair Click file->Export Type the name of file Select include private keys checkbox
Distributing Public Keys Why ? Distribute your public key to those to which you want to communicate They use your public key to encrypt data and you then can use your Private key to decrypt data Publish your key on the PGP Global Directory Include your public key in an email message Export your public key or copy it to a text file How to distribute:

Including Your Public Key in an Email Message The second method of publishing the keys is to include it in the email message Before sending the key via email message be sure the email has been signed this will ensure that no other has tempered with your email. In PGP Desktop, make sure the PGP Keys Control box is selected. Right-click the keypair whose public key you want to include in an email message. Select  Send To  and then select  Mail Recipient . Your email application opens with your key information already in place. Address the message and send it. How to send via email ? If this process does not work then EDIT->COPY
Exporting Your Public Key to a File Third method is export your key to a file and then send this file to person you want to communicate. File > Export. Edit > Copy How to send via File?

Getting Public Keys from a Keyserver IF you want to send a message to any other person you should have the public key of receiver, which you use to encrypt the data. Getting public key from key sever Open PGP Desktop and highlight the PGP Keys Control box. Choose  Search for Keys  from the PGP Keys Control box. The Search for Keys screen is displayed in the Work area. Specify your search criteria, then click  Search . If you want to search only a specific keyserver, click in the  Search  field and select the keyserver. If the keyserver you want to search is not currently on the list, select  Edit Keyserver List  and add it. You can search for keys on a keyserver by specifying values for multiple key characteristics. The inverse of most operations is also available. For example, you may search using “User ID is not Charles” as your criteria. The results of the search appear. If the search found a public key you want to add to your keyring, click  Add to My Keying  in the PGP Keys Control box. The selected key is added to your keyring.

The master key is the set of keys that can be used as a default key for messaging Disk encryption, PGP NetShare,PGP Zip Advantage Save the step of dragging the regular keys for recipients field. Adding Keys to the Master Key List In PGP Desktop, select  Tools > Options . Select the Master Keys tab. To use the Master Key List, select the  Use Master Key List  checkbox. You cannot add or remove keys from the Master Key List unless this box is selected. Click  Add.  The Select Master Keys dialog box is displayed. From the  Key Source  list on the left, select the key(s) that you want to use. Use Shift+click or Ctrl+click to select multiple keys. After selecting the keys you want, click  Add. When you have finished selecting keys, click  OK.  The keys you have selected appear in the Master Key List.
