Paul wrote to the Philippians to encourage them in their faith amid his own imprisonment. He thanked the church for their partnership in spreading the gospel. Though in chains, Paul rejoiced that Christ was still being preached, either with right or wrong motives. Paul was torn between continuing his work or departing to be with Christ, but felt it important to remain for the Philippians' progress. He urged them to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel and to stand firm together in their faith.
