Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) based distributed generators (DGs) are generally controlled as current
source to deliver only active power generated by PV source to the grid. However, reactive power
transfer capability of such DGs must be utilized to satisfy reactive power demand of the load or to
provide reactive power support to the grid. Reactive power management for several such PV based
DGs operating in parallel is a challenging task as the available reactive power capacity of each
depends on the environmental conditions and may vary continuously. The proposed algorithm
considers the effect of environmental conditions on the active power generated by the DGs and
accordingly assigns reactive power references for the inverters after computing the available
capacity of the inverters. Hence, irrespective of variation in active powers of the DGs, the proposed
algorithm not only helps to avoid the overloading of the inverters but also operates all inverters at
same apparent power rating to ensure equal utilization of the inverters. The algorithm is evaluated in
terms of its capability to obtain the best solution that gives the least standard deviation of utilization
factors of the inverters. Simulation results obtained using MATLAB/Simulink are included to

technologies with the potential to minimise the high energy demands of office buildings in the
Adelaide CBD. Recently, the Australian government has put in significant effort to increase the
sustainability of existing buildings. The Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) program, released
as part of the Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Act 2010, requires the owners of Australia's
largest office buildings to reveal information regarding their energy consumption and efficiency to
the public (Department of Industry and Science 2015). By replacing conventional building materials
on the exterior of a building with solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, BIPV allows on–site electricity
generation to reduce the building's total energy consumption and emissions. A multifunctional
technology, the modules can also serve dual functions as roofs, windows, walls, thermal insulation
and daylight modulators, increasing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. It is therefore
recommended that the South Australian government develop policies and strategies to encourage the
incorporation of BIVP into all future buildings and restoration projects. The development of BIVP
standards and procedures will also be necessary to overcome the technical and financial constraints

The basic principle behind photovoltaics is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaic
cells, "generate electric power when illuminated by sunlight or artificial light. They are by far the
most highly developed of the man–made photoconversion devices". (pg.1) Although seemingly
cutting edge, the physics and technology behind photovoltaics is nothing new. Their history reaches
as far back as 1839, with the first photoconversion devices appearing in the 1950 's and the earliest
installations of these devices taking place in the 1970 's. Today, with technological innovations
consistently and exponentially improving everything from photovoltaic efficiency to their aesthetic
qualities, photovoltaic devices are poised for significant market expansion.
With the dawn of the energy crisis upon us, photovoltaic technology has become a crucial
component of discussions centering around sustainability, clean energy, and renewable recourses.
This is because there are a number of significant advantages associated with photovoltaic

and large area production on mechanically flexible substrates. These are lightweight and suitable for
the applications such as foldable and portable solar cells. Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have not
achieved efficiencies comparable to the inorganic solar cells due to poor charge carrier mobility [1].
Recent developments of optimizing the organic absorbing materials have shown encouraging device
performance towards overcoming the challenges associated with commercialization. Using various
fabrication techniques, production speed up to several meters square per second can be achieved.
With roll to roll fabrication process, about 105 m2 of a film can be prepared in a day. The

ABRIDGEMENT This report aims to discuss the working of DC–AC converter for photovoltaic
systems and how it has been implemented to convert renewable energy into usable power to be
supplied to the load (power supply application).A topology of a two–stage DC–AC converter has
been designed in which a boost converter and a full bridge inverter act as an interface between the
photovoltaic (PV) array and the power supply applications. A controlled strategy called Maximum
Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique has been used for achieving maximum power output at the
load. Various modes of operation of the converter and the inverter are also discussed. MATLAB
Simulink environment has been used for designing the circuitry and to observe various waveforms
