The engineering club's first project is to build a ping pong ball machine. The front end design includes a ball supplier to load one ball into the barrel per shot. A spring and barrel will propel the ball. An engine and chain will power the machine by reloading the spring. Modifications are proposed to add spin to the ball for different trajectories using a "hop-up" system. Materials like PVC, springs, and motors will be used. Physics calculations predict the spring will provide 0.0125 Joules of energy and launch the ball at around 1 m/s, though friction will decrease this velocity.
