A joint partnership between several Washington state educational organizations aimed to improve student learning through professional development for teachers. Educators identified three areas for change: rethinking current professional development; restructuring the design, delivery, and expectations of teacher professional development; and reculturing schools to support ongoing job-embedded teacher growth. Professional learning communities were promoted as an effective model where teachers collaboratively problem-solve and apply new learning in their classrooms, leading to benefits like increased student achievement and reduced isolation for staff. The partnership provides an online learning platform and resources to build capacity for professional learning communities in schools and districts.
