Pharmacists need to be involved: • Studies show pharmacy medication adherence programs can improve Rx regimen compliance from below 60% to 97% or more with increased patient safety. • Improved compliance leads to improved disease state management - i.e. reduced BP, LDL, A1C, etc. • Reduced risk factors results in reduced healthcare costs and improved patient outcomes. • The technology to improve Rx compliance is available to pharmacists today. Oregon BOP rules need to allow pharmacists to participate in programs utilizing this technology designed to improve medication delivery, Rx adherence/compliance, patient safety, etc. Pharmacists should allowed to take the lead role as medication adherence specialists!
