- 2. Portugal is located in Southwestern Europe. It is bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean and Spain. In Northern Portugal the weather is cool and rainy; while is Southern Portugal, the weather is warm and dry. There are many different ways that the people in Portugal get around on a daily basis. The main mode of transportation is paved and unpaved roadways. Portugal also has: 66 airports, railways, the Douro River, and Merchant ships and boats.
- 3. Portugal is populated by around 10,642,836 people. Most of the people living in this country are Roman Catholics. Locally, many people in Portugal speak Mirandese, but all of the people speak the national language of Portuguese. - 4. Portugal has a parliamentary democracy government. The national holiday in Portugal (Portugal Day) was formed to remember the day that the national poet Luis de Camoes died. The Portuguese economy has been very successful for the past two decades. The two main aspects of the economy that is flourishing is the financial and telecommunications economy.
- 5. Just like America, Portugal has a number of different military branches. They have: the Army, Air Force, Navy, and the National Republican Guard. The number of women and the number of men in the armed forces are pretty much equal. However, woman are not allowed to serve on combat missions. Also just like other countries, Portugal has its share of transnational issues. One of the main issues the Portuguese government deals with is illegal drugs. The two main drugs that pose issues in Portugal are cocaine and heroin.
