Benefits for You…
Aim To improve your business by improving the people within it. It’s people that make your businesses successful – highly effective people equate to better businesses - this is where The Power of One begins
Objectives Recognise and build on your three strongest personal assets Further improve communication skills in email, in person and on the phone Identify triggers that will enable you to think and behave positively Refine and enhance your interpersonal effectiveness within your team Demonstrate and maintain a sense of well-being Achieve even greater success by doing more than the minimum required Take responsibility for the trajectory of your career
Your Programme
Action Plans They’re personal… Be realistic Identify ONE item to action per Principle Choose a ‘buddy’ to help you Work on it throughout the day Don’t leave it until the end
Principle 1: The Authentic One
Think back to your role models Are the behaviours they demonstrate, real or fake? Are ‘fakers’ easy to spot? What are the benefits of ‘being real/ being authentic’? What are the benefits and pitfalls of saying ‘’yes’ and/or ‘no’ too often? The Authentic One – Exercise
Key Points – The Authentic One Be a little self-reflective What one thing can you do to be more of the real you? Breathe… Bringing a part of you to work that you haven’t previously, WILL encourage people to want to be around you Ask for feedback – in fact, welcome it Listen 100% to what the other person is saying Learn how to say no, yet still sound positive
Power of one
Principle 2: EveryOne is a Role Model
Refer back to your role models/icons What is it about them that makes them stand out for you? Write down their qualities as specifically as you can (what is it they SAY and/or DO?/How do they behave?) EveryOne is a Role Model – Exercise
In order to improve our communication skills, we must first become aware of how we do communicate Watch your language, if you don’t, others will Ask yourself what you can do to be a better role model? When you’re hanging around the water-cooler or having a chat with a co-worker, make sure you leave them with something positive to think about Naturally, you’d like people to speak well of you, we all would. By adopting the attitude and behaviours of a good role model, people will always speak well of you When we say one thing and do another, we lose credibility Key Points – EveryOne is a Role Model
Power of one Lunch Break
Principle 3: The Power of ‘One-to-One’
The Power of ‘One on One’ – Exercise MAKING A GOOD IMPRESSION ..in person ..in writing ..using the telephone
Knowing how to build rapport is essential Being engaging is about being people-friendly Be aware of how you would like to come across Build your personal brand People think that by using emotion to get their point across, their point is made stronger. The reverse is true Key Points – The Power of ‘One on One’
Principle 4: One Positive Way
One Positive Way Listen…
Is the glass half-full or half-empty? Actually, it’s both! Our mind is the only thing we have complete control over A positive thought, will bring about a positive experience, not only on the inside, but on the outside too When we learn how to use techniques that prevent us from feeling negative, we feel positive Train your brain to do as it’s told Plant a seed of positive thinking in your business and in your life Key Points – One Positive Way
Power of one
Principle 5: Change One Thing
Change One Thing - Exercise
Change is challenging for all of us Do something different, something really small The best way to learn and grow is to encourage change within ourselves As much as we might like to, we can’t change others Repetitive, habitual behaviors that don’t achieve the outcome we require or want, need a different attitude & strategy. Think differently! When we make a conscious effort to change, our world looks bigger and better Key Points – Change One Thing
Summary of Day One
Welcome back…
Recap
Today…
Principle 6: Doing One Right Thing
Doing One Right Thing – Exercise What does’ Doing One Right Thing’ mean to you? Times in your past when ‘Doing One Right Thing’ would have helped?
Honesty is the best policy One of the most challenging relationships in our lives is the relationship we have with ourselves When we do the right thing instead of the wrong thing, we are replicating the behaviour of those people we so admire It’s much easier on our brain to do the right thing Sometimes doing the right thing entails making a sacrifice Ask yourself what part of ‘doing the right thing’ doesn’t work for you Key Points – Doing One Right Thing
Power of one
Principle 7: One for all and all for One
Exercise – One for all and all for One Time to let your imagination do the work It’s NOT a test It’s about ‘letting go’ Fifteen minutes to create Five minutes to feedback your creation to your colleagues Have fun!
Key Points – One for All and All for One We are not alone Leaders, are intensely curious, hungry to learn and give everyone their ear Make sure there’s a continual dialogue going on between you and your co-workers Don’t be afraid to be open and honest Even those business icons love it when us mere mortals ask them questions Very successful people and highly profitable businesses thrive because they collaborate What we desire out of business-life and life-life is available to us. We just have to be aware of what it is we really, really want
